| Forum Reply | Sheffield United's defence at 17:14 19 May 2024
Historically teams who’ve scored well in their promotion seasons tend to do better in the Prem than teams who’ve gone up with a tight defence. Not sure why that is. My guess is that it’s cheaper to buy good defenders than good attackers. |

IMO it’s very much “quantity over quality” for coffee shops in Hadleigh. Paddy & Scott is probably the best but it’s ok, nothing more. |
| Forum Reply | On VAR at 14:38 16 May 2024
In principle I like this idea and would be happy to see it trialled. But how does it work for goals that have been wrongly disallowed for offside, like in the Real v Bayern game? |
| Forum Reply | VAR again. Sorry but I thought it needed a new thread as it's a different take at 21:18 15 May 2024
No, it would just shift the boundary of the argument. Most of the arguments against VAR seem to fall into two categories: (a) it’s enforcing laws that we don’t really like (b) it takes too long. (a) is nothing to do with VAR and (b) should be worked on. But one thing we can be sure of, the TV companies are going to keep showing multiple angles, super slo-mo etc so the refs are going to carry on getting it in the neck. |
| Forum Reply | Anyone else now worried that Phil is reporting 'the link' (n/t) at 12:26 15 May 2024
Be under no illusions. Letting ETH carry on is every bit as much an “appointment” from Ineos as is replacing him with someone else. And I reckon they’re allowed to get it wrong once. So if they keep ETH and he doesn’t improve them then they’re in their own last chance saloon. Which is why I think they’ll make a change. Hopefully they’ll play it safe and go with a “name”. But that hasn’t exactly served them well recently. |

You’re so right, and that’s the worry for me. McKenna’s body of work is far more relevant to Man Utd now than it would be if someone else came in, stabilised the ship and then left in a couple of years time. Plus it’s early enough in the Ineos era for them to be able to afford to take a gamble. |
| Forum Reply | Town in 5 the journey builds momentum at 10:52 15 May 2024
Yes, I remember this. I was sat in the home fans and, as andytown says, I wasn’t the only one. Burns scoring two goals on Burns Night was a headline writers dream. This was basically McKenna working with what Cook had left him and already the difference was stark. Two other things I remember: (a) wondering why on earth this new manager had picked Kayden Jackson - shows what I know (b) the first half finishing when the scoreboard clock said there were still 30 seconds to go, let alone injury time. |
| Forum Reply | Wrexham plans to build a 55k-seater stadium at 19:37 13 May 2024
I'd love to know what the owners' end game is. They've certainly done a great deal to raise the profile so I suspect if they sold tomorrow then they'd make a tidy profit. But does the value keep going up? Because the expenses certainly will. Totally different ownership model but if you look at FC United of Manchester they seem to have got to a point where they don't just get promoted every year, and the story isn't new any more. |
| Forum Reply | The New Kit at 14:36 13 May 2024
The Burnley development is an odd one. When the Castore/Umbro deal was announced the press release specifically talked about the deal "marking [Castore's] emergence as a multi-brand business", ie they'd keep the Umbro brand. What they've done with Burnley doesn't seem consistent with that. As we've only got a year left on the current Umbro deal I wouldn't be surprised if we kept the Umbro brand for next season, then went with Castore if they won the new contract. If we went with someone else from 25/26 it's probably not a good look for Castore to only provide the kit for 1 season, particularly after Newcastle ended their Castore deal early. |
| Forum Thread | Any plumbers on here? at 12:52 13 May 2024
I'm thinking of a career change / retraining, and becoming a plumber has some appeal. Would be interested to hear experiences from anyone who's done it, especially about best ways to do the qualifications. Feel free to DM me if easier. |
| Forum Reply | Safe standing at 12:46 13 May 2024
From what I've seen at other grounds, safe standing gives you zero extra capacity. Everyone still has to have a seat, it's just easier to fold it up and stand. |
| Forum Reply | VAR and how I'd change it... at 14:22 10 May 2024
Agreed. It’s the speed of VAR which causes a lot of the issues. There’s a marginal offside call and it takes 5 minutes to decide that a player is a few millimetres offside, so we don’t like it. But if the ball is over / not over the goal line by a few millimetres we’re ok with that because it’s instant. This semi-automated offside thing has a lot riding on it. |
| Forum Reply | Any whispers on the new 24-25 kit? at 17:07 8 May 2024
No whispers, but I wonder if the fact that the recent remakes of old Umbro kits didn’t include the 92-94 home shirt (white sleeves, red laces) is telling. |
| Forum Thread | If you’re looking for an example of how the club has changed at 10:49 8 May 2024
This is Ian Milne when the Magical Vegas shirt sponsorship was announced: “Of course there were discussions about us being a community club and what have you, but betting is legal.” Dismissing the role of the club in the community with a “and what have you”. And now we have a manager who helps clear up the park (although tbf “reacting to a celebration” was never really an issue under the previous regime). |

Bizarrely our possible status as one of the favourites for relegation* could count in our favour if Chelsea are trying to do this sort of deal. A buyback is only any use if the club wants to sell (or the player wants to move) so less likely to be relevant for an established premier league club. *: I’m assuming we will be (along with whoever comes up in the play offs) rather than I think we’re likely to go down |
| Forum Reply | Financial sustainability rules at 16:47 7 May 2024
This is a very good point. Most of a club’s expenditure will be committed before they know what their main income stream (Sky TV revenue) will amount to. |

I’ve seen QPR a few times this season (Leeds at home was particularly pleasing) and have mates who are season ticket holders. By all accounts his performance against us in the game at Loftus Road was an outlier. |
