I do agree he's a good player and he would be a decent fit...... but I do think there's a feeling amongst many that he would be coming back home. And I don't think he would feel the same. In fact, I would probably say he's much more likely to want to play under Russell Martin than with us. He's played his best football under him. In addition, he's a West Ham player ( and fan) contracted for another 3 years. Could be he gets another chance there under a new manager.
I dont take it personally ( like Arnie, perhaps) but I don't see the bond between him and this club. He seems like he's moved on and in some ways if we were to sign him his background might get in the way.

Posh revenue incoming for Taylor. Can the midfielder step up to the Premiership?
at 23:47 19 May 2024

Personally, I don't think he's good enough for the PL. Great shot on him, but I felt a little underwhelmed. Maybe one we'll offload and try and recoup some of the money on him. I thought he'd nudge Mass out of the team eventually, but he wasn't nowhere near good enough. Useful squad player, but can't say he contributed that much.

I'd imagine anyone who is fortunate enough to own a pink house in a picturesque Suffolk village is probably a Chelsea fan ... and it's their second home behind their London abode.

I agree he'll still be a wanted man if we get relegated..... but not as much and certainly not by the bigger clubs.
Just thinking... is Kompany now such a hot property as last year?

Fair enough, but to keep the Brighton machine going they've got to keep on recruiting well. And that would mean managers/ coaches, as well as players. I mean their current manager is hardly a dud.... but I guess they feel he's done as much as he can and they have to recruit someone better ( or someone who has the potential to be better).
Brighton are a very clever and successful outfit and I'm sure they could put a package together which could entice Kieran..or at least make him listen. Maybe they're just a couple of players short of getting into the top six and Europe and that could be that much closer to getting that top job. Let's be honest.... we're much more likely than Brighton to be nearer the bottom of the PL.
I'm hopeful he's invested with us for the moment and stays .... but I won't be surprised if he goes. If he does, then it's over to Ashton in sniffing out a replacement.

No I wasn't suggesting Ashton is going to sack him. I was making a point that having young kids in a settled school probably won't be a major factor in this industry.
Kieran is hot at the moment and everyone wants him..... but if things dont go to plan then his stock will plummet. It's a two way thing. Owners ( and fans) don't care about a manager having kids in schools when things aren't going well.

I've just read your last paragraph. He won't leave here until we get Champions League? Serious? Look... if Kieran can establish us as a PL club over the next couple of years id be delighted, especiallyif we're playing a great brand of football. And he'd still be seen as a rising star ready for the next step. Think you're getting ahead of yourself with the Champions League.

You make good points until you got to the history and legacy bit. Why would Kieran want to stay because he wants to emulate Sir Bobby and Sir Alf? Surely that's more for the fans.... and not for an ambitious, young manager. Brighton are a few rungs and quite a few years ahead of us in terms of PL pedigree and might be that stepping stone needed for that big, big job.
I just hope Kièran backs himself for the moment and sticks with us in the hope that we'll be the stepping stone to the big time, and not a Brighton.
I guess the fear is if we have a tough time and his reputation goes from being the hottest property to being a Lambert.

There's every chance he'll go in the next 5 years. Just hopefully he'll hang around for a year or two.

Most manager's get sacked irrespective if they have a young family in settled schools. No owner gives a f#ck about a manager having young kids in a local school when they sack him. It's not a settled profession.

Get used to the idea he'll leave, but hopefully it's not just yet and all on our terms.

Possibly...... but we also have quite a few who go completely bonkers over players who've been in our academy. Like it seems to raise their abilities by 20-30%. I truly doubt if Downes would get a mention if he hadn't been an academy player.
And another thing.... I agree its a cut-throat industry and I have a feeling that Downes is the type of lad who has very little sentiment about us as a club and will make his own cut-throat decision about his future where we're not part of it. And I have no problem with that. Good player, but can't see him giving two hoots about us. Don't understand this hero worship of ex-academy players..... especially as we've had in the last two years so many examples of genuine legends who've joined us from anywhere and given everything for us.

Guardian helpfully saying ETH is 50/50 to stay at Utd
at 06:26 16 May 2024

I think United have bigger problems off the pitch which affects the on-field situation. Might be smart to keep ETH there as both a demolition man and a whipping boy for the time being. They're introducing a new structure and they're unlikely to get it right straight away. Might as well keep ETH there whilst they're still trying to shake off the basket case side and offload a bunch of overpaid flops.
If Kieran went there now he'd be walking into a major transition and it might be beyond him. He's better to bide his time.

Dozzell released by QPR…
at 06:19 13 May 2024

I'm not looking for an argument but I still can't see what the fuss there is about Dozzell and I can't see how he would fit in a Mckenna side. I've heard this so often about departed academy players ( Bishop, Dozzell, Lankester) that all they needed was Mckennas coaching. But we recruited well and brought together a great group of players with great desire, great never-say-die attitude and willingness to improve. I can't see Dozzell in that squad amongst those players no matter what coaching he would get. I would say coaching is two-way and Mckenna can't just sprinkle magic dust on anyone.

Please explain what you mean? We've had plenty of young kids who've been let go under the McKenna reign because they've just not been good enough. Dozzell has got a father as an ex-pro .... surely that's an advantage. What about Klug? Isn't he a top youth coach. McKenna can't apply his magic to just anyone. Somewhere down the line he's got to take responsibility for himself. He's 25 now... he's not a kid anymore. I'm sure no-one advised him not to tackle or not to run too hard.

I don't think coaching has got anything to do with it. He's a got a headstart on all his peers by having a father who's an ex-pro. He's technically very good, but he hasn't got that drive or desire. Nor physicality. There are plenty of players around who didn't have McKenna's coaching who still made it to the top. I look at Dozzell's skillset and attributes and I don't think he could play in a McKenna side.

After 3 years of Morsy ... and Mass.... surely we've raised the bar on what a midfielder is and what he can do for a team. Dozzell was a luxury player. He can't do any of the grafting that's required and he doesn't contribute enough with goals/assists. Play him as a number 10? Serious? How would be play in a team as a 10 and do the same things as Chappers or Broadhead? . He could possibly play in a deeper role where he's got a minder alongside him to do the grafting for him. I think League One is his level.

Goodman should have just laughed it off, just quickly mentioned he's very impressed by us and has given us compliments and wished us well for the future. Christ.... he's just made himself look even more foolish by trying to list every compliment he's given us.
Once you let it know something has got under your skin.... then he's just asking for more.

Do we want Nodge to win the play offs
at 09:03 7 May 2024

Definite no from me.

If they win the play offs, then fair play..... but they will have achieved the same as us ( ie promotion), Why take the shine of our promotion? Why do you want to see them gain the same status as us even though we have 23 more points than them? We did it over 46 games. The proper way.

I'd rather we focus on ourselves than them. The derby only became more significant because we were stuck in a division usually with nothing to play for except 2 derby games a season. F#ck em.

Don't understand the drama. Hasn't been sacked. His contract is up and they've decided to look at someone else to take the club further. Could all be very amicable behind the scenes. Gives the WH fanbase a different perspective towards Moyes where they can thank him for what he's done and not constantly moan about him. Think it's the best outcome for everyone.
