Trio Win Caps - Ipswich Town News

Gareth McAuley, Tamás Priskin and Owen Garvan picked up international caps on Wednesday but none of them were on the winning side.

McAuley made his 19th appearance for Northern Ireland as his side lost 2-0 at home to Slovakia at Windsor Park. Despite the defeat, the Northern Irish are still in with a chance of reaching the World Cup play-offs.

Priskin won his 21st Hungarian cap when he came on as a 65th minute sub in his nation’s 1-0 home defeat to Portugal in Budapest. Hungary aren’t completely out of the play-off running, but with their final two games away in Denmark and Portugal their chances are slim.

Owen Garvan skippered the Republic of Ireland U21s as they drew 1-1 in Estonia in a European Championships qualifier. The Blues midfielder hit the bar with a freekick. Garvan was winning his 11th U21 cap.

Overnight, new signing Carlos Edwards’s Trinidad and Tobago are up against the US in Port Of Spain. Edwards, who has been playing at right-back for his country, will win his 76th cap.
