Crashed in thick fog in mountainous terrain, most likely an accident. There are also Kurds up in that direction who have no reason to love Iran. |

Thing is, most, probably all, of the supposed suitors so far can offer deals at least as lucrative as anything ITFC can. We're not going to outbid them. IMO, it's going to come down to whether the things they might put on the table (more in terms of club setup, future progression and career development than simply money) is enough to persuade McKenna to leave the Ipswich project he's been so deeply involved in building. |

The Iranian President's helicopter crashed (or crash-landed) in a remote mountainous area of the country's north west this afternoon. Unclear yet on whether lives have been lost. Edit: Not looking good from latest reports. [Post edited 19 May 17:36]

It's a shame they couldn't look 60 years further back, to when the Conservative Party was part of the Post-War Consensus, supported the Welfare State, retained a social conscience (their leaders having witnessed the Great Depression) and so on. Rather than the party of dismantling civilised society to benefit the wealthy and dog-whistles for the ignorant. |

He did sign a new one less than a year ago. Runs until 2027. I'd be very surprised if it didn't include provisions and bonuses for promotion and continuation in the Prem*. * Ashton doesn't come across as the type to slip up on important stuff like that. |

We don't know what, if any, offers/discussions/approaches may have been made. If there are any McKenna deserves the time to consider them before making decisions. The club deserves the time to persuade him to stay, if they think that's viable. The transfer preparation work will be continuing regardless. The window doesn't open for another month. There will be no statement until all the stuff behind the scenes (if any) has worked itself out. If he's staying there will be no statement as the status quo simply continues. We, the fans, simply need to be patient. |

In 1998-99, ManCity were in the third tier. A double promotion and one yo-yo later, they gained a permanent foot-hold in the Prem. Eight years later they were qualifying for Europe. Two years after that they won the Prem, then repeatedly thereafter. Not saying we can exactly emulate that trajectory (one heck of a lot of money was spent), but it's not impossible to get somewhere close. |

Constant gossip and info about managers/players being poached Youngsters being snatched from our Academy Games being moved on the whim of TV channels' late decisions to broadcast them (e.g suddenly lunchtime kick-offs over a hundred miles away) Poor reffing decisions with no second opinion Parachute payment teams dominating the transfer market A constant struggle for funding |

Altho the aspects of the level of control he has at Ipswich, the time and energy he's put into shaping the squad, the idea of a longer-term project and even the stuff about his family being settled in Suffolk are important and objective factors in McKenna's decision over whether he stays or goes and, if the latter, where. It's not just about the money or even grabbing the first good offer with both hands. There are too many people (even on here) talking as if we're guaranteed to be humiliatingly relegated next season, or at least to struggle badly. Perhaps McKenna has more faith in his own abilities, the system he's created and the players we have or are hiring. He does, after all, know the Prem very well. Taking a team from League One to establishment in the top tier is far more of an achievement than a simple meteoric rise. |

from decades of governments who refuse to spend money on necessary things because it won't allow them to make tax cut bribes at election time and keep wealthy/corporate donors on-side. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/may/18/meet-becky-aged-14 Mental heath provision - especially residential - has been pretty much dismantled since the advent of "Care" in the Community during the 1980s. As you will know if you've ever had to plead for suicidal friends to be taken into hospital, with the response "You look after them". |

Da Vinci never did entirely finish the Mona Lisa. Rather than delivering it to the subject, he kept the painting with him for the rest of his life, working on it a bit more from time to time. Which is how it ended up in France when he moved there. |
| Forum Reply | Israel is a barbaric State. at 19:15 18 May 2024
I don't think that's entirely true. He has - when in power, which has been very patchy - encouraged extremist and hard-line elements who are prepared to lend him their support, most notably the settlers. But that's only some sectors of society as a whole. Indeed, they are under-represented in the military as they often refuse to accept conscription. The scale and energy of the protests he faced while attempting to override the judiciary is evidence of his unpopularity with large parts of the population. There are more protests now over his conduct of the war. He only marginally managed to regain a parliamentary majority in 2022, after several inconclusive elections. |

Strictly speaking, Israel has a barbaric government. Not for the first time in its history. The nation itself includes people of all sorts, including those protesting against current policy. |

Altho the situation was a bit different. There is considered to be a greater likelihood of a job vacancy coming up at Old Trafford than last summer at the Etihad. |

Comment from a ManU-supporting mate was that McKenna is probably on the list, but not particularly close to the top. |

Sure, that one story exists and has been widely copied. It has the fairytale glamour to attract readers. But looking at it from the other end - i.e. who is seriously in contention for the job this summer - his name is well down, hedged by caveats (mainly around lack of experience) or not there at all. |

Good manager, too. I know he was working with superior tools at Leeds and complete ones at Norwich, but he does get reults. |
