Loan Watch Written by Cotter_kyle on Tuesday, 10th Jun 2014 18:20 Several members of Mick McCarthy's squad spent time out on loan during 2013/14. Elliott Hewitt: Elliott Hewitt is a defender who spent the season out on loan at League One side Gillingham. He played 20 times for the Gills as they successfully battled relegation. The 20-year-old has played 11 times for the Town in the league since signing a three-year deal in May 2012 and will look to add to this after a successful spell at the Priestfield Stadium. Mick McCarthy may look to send him out on loan once again but after proving he can kick it with the best in the third tier, Hewitt could be challenging for a spot in the first team. Frédéric Veseli: Frédéric penned a two-year contract at Portman Road after spending five years in Manchester with both City and then United. Since then Veseli has been signed up by League Two outfit Bury on two separate loan deals and made 18 appearances while they survived relegation. The 21-year-old defender has been capped at every international level from U15 up to U21 and is hoping for a call up to the Swiss senior team although he has said he is open for a call up to the Albanian side, whom he is also eligible to line up for. Paul Taylor: At 26 Paul has already been around the block having played for seven clubs in two different countries. The striker has been somewhat troublesome off the field and looked to have kick-started his career at Peterborough, but when he got his move to the Tractor Boys at the second time of asking he flopped and was sent back to the Posh on loan. He played only six times for Darren Ferguson’s men, without scorng. He has since been put on the transfer list by McCarthy. Jack Marriott: Marriott has been on three different loan spells this season, two at Woking and briefly one at Gillingham. He played 23 times at a competitive level and will look to push on into Mick’s plans for either the year coming or the next. He has an impressive goal scoring record at non-league level and will look to bring it up through the ranks. Jack Doherty: The Irishman failed to break into the Blues’ first team and was loaned back to his former club Waterford United in Ireland being deemed not good enough (for Ipswich) by his fellow countryman, McCarthy. He is plying his trade in the second tier in Ireland and I recently saw him play in the FAI Cup second round against Shelbourne and it was noticeable difference that Jack was a step above the rest. Here’s hoping that Doherty can continue this form and bring it back to his parent club. Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
