Nine Games to Seal Our Fate
Written by AwayDays on Tuesday, 17th Mar 2015 16:26

After our recent run of poor form, I'd like to take a look at our last remaining fixtures and analyse/predict the outcomes of those important games.

I am writing this the day of the Bolton game so by the time you read this blog we may have already walked away with three points, or made our run in even tougher than it already is.

Watford Away

For somebody that has visited Vicarage Road for the last four years in a row it is difficult to see us getting a result here. It’s commonly known amongst fans as the ‘Watford Hoo-Doo’, as a result of our lack of ability to travel back to Suffolk with three points in the bag. You may recall a few years ago when a certain addict by the name of Chopra, snuck in at the back post in the 90th minute to give us a 1-0 win – what a feeling!

Last season, we were not so fortunate. When Anthony Wordsworth darted in at the front post and equalised for us just after half-time, and with 2000 of the barmy army cheering on the boys in blue, I could only see one result, a Town win. Okay my vision was slightly impaired by all of the inflatable genitals flying around but I was sure we would kick on to seal a victory.

However, Luke Hyam hits the bar with a solid header and before you know it we are 2-1 down, I know it doesn’t make sense does it? Well, for those that were there, Watford counter attacked like a pack of hyenas and Gabriele Angella slammed the ball into the net for the home side to take the lead.

We went to sleep shortly after this and lost the game 3-1. It's going to take a HUGE performance for us to win the game this time around, Watford are scoring for fun and we are conceding for fun, it doesn’t look good. However, in high spirits I’m going for a 1-1 draw.

Bournemouth at Home

Bournemouth were tearing apart pretty much every side that came their way earlier in the season but I always felt they wouldn’t be able to hold that form and would slip away. I thought I may be proven correct recently with them losing a few games on the bounce. However, it appears Mr Howe has got them bang up for it again and their wizardry midfield is back on song.

A difficult game, but we did go to their gaff and sneak a draw so you never know the same might happen again at Fortress PR. Keeping players such as Matt Ritchie and Yann Kermorgant quiet will be a big ask but for me Harry Arter is the danger man. Who even is Harry Arter? I'd never heard of him until this season but after watching him play a few times he has shown he has fantastic quality with both feet and can cut teams open with passes others can’t see.

Similar to the lad we have called.....oh no, Sixto Peralta doesn’t play for us any more, does he? Think we may not have enough to keep them at bay and keep a clean sheet but if we play out of our skin we may achieve a draw. Another 2-2 for me.

Huddersfield Away

There’s no denying Huddersfield have been poor all season pretty much, and that they are at best a mid-lower table Championship team. They have too many average players, some may say we have too, but the difference is that our average players such as Jay Tabb, Tommy Smith, Paul Anderson etc all played out of their skin for the first half of the season, overachieving would be an understatement.

They do have a bit of quality in Butterfield and Vaughan but I feel we will be too strong for them up top and Daryl Murphy will tear them apart. A comfortable 2-0.

Blackpool at Home

Well, they are destined for League One. Crazy to think so when I recall travelling five hours to see us get stuffed 6-0 by the likes of Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Tom Ince and friends. Nevertheless, the overhaul at their club has sent them into rapid decline and they have surely sealed their fate already. When players start sending pictures of themselves to friends saying ‘Here we go, time to lose again’, you know that your in trouble.

They don’t offer much going forward even with the likes of Nathan Delfouneso and Steven Davies (I wonder how Davies is settling in up North considering he turned down Town because we weren’t close enough to his family in London, muppet) and the back four is suspect. This game could turn out to be a banana skin but I cannot picture that if I’m honest. 3-0 Town.

Cardiff at Home

The only team to beat us during our immense spell earlier in the season, Cardiff have really struggled to re-adapt to life in the Championship, however it can’t be easy with that doughnut Vincent Tan in charge of the club. Good to see they are back playing in blue though, as I for one would riot if ME tried to change us to red (even though Roy Keane tried his best to do so).

They have some quality players in Peter Whittingham and Kenwyne Jones but have struggled to fire on all cylinders this season. I imagine they will be challenging the play offs next season but fancy us for a 1-0 win this time around.

Wolves Away

Probably one our hardest fixtures during the run in IMO. With Benik Afobe, Bacary Sakho and Nouha Dicko, they have electric pace going forward, something we lack at the back (bar Tyrone Mings). They are on a play-off surge and playing well. With Mick McCarthy returning to his old club it will be a tasty one but I think we will have to be at our very best to beat these lot. Obviously I could never predict we will lose (way too biased) so I’m going for a 1-1.

Forest at Home

I really dislike Forest, maybe because my best mate is a Derby fan and constantly slating them but there is something about the club I just don’t like. They were supremely lucky to snatch a draw from us at their gaff as we tore them apart for most of the game.

But with Freedman at the helm they are rampant in front of goal once again and have set the throttle to full steam ahead for the run in to see if they can pinch a play off spot, our play-off spot. Not on our watch. 2-1 Town.

And finally, Blackburn Away

This could be a horrible 90 minutes depending on where we are at this stage! We could be needing a win/draw for the play-offs, or we could already be guaranteed a spot.

Praying for the latter, I think this will be a scrappy game of football on a really poor pitch. I don’t think they will be making a play off charge but with players like Rhodes (still hate RK for selling him) Rudy Gestede and Ben Marshall they are dangerous going forward.

They aren’t so solid at the back and have leaked goals this season fairly freely, only hoping for the front boys to bail them out. I'm going for a bore draw 0-0 and Town to seal a play-off spot.

Here’s praying.

COYB.

An interesting read with a good blend of analysis and humour. The most surprising thing for me is that there is still an optimist amongst us and my god I hope you're right with your predictions. Starting tonight with a tight 1-0 win to town, Murphy to score, and the charge is back on, COYB!
Oh, and Sixto Peralta, what a talent.

I hope the players have as much faith as you seem to. If they do we might still sneak those play offs

I remember another very important 0-0 draw at Blackburn, that time it maintained a premier league spot.
