Moving up north; radio coverage. 22:44 - Aug 9 with 11279 viewsBlueSpark

First post I believe, although I've lurked here for years.

Simple and possibly stupid question, but is BBC Radio Suffolk Matchday available to listen to up north? I know there was an online thing but iirc it doesn't play the football commentary.

My childhood had consisted of listening to pretty much every game I wasn't at, and even now whenever I'm not working.

Because the North of England isn't officially a foreign country. iFollow will give the commentary in the UK.

Don't worry about all that. You can watch from the UK and it's £5 a match. I can't comment on the commentary but I guess that's an option too.

Having been in the past 2 chatrooms it seems iFollow has a lot of negative feedback. I will look into it, however. Is it just video or commentary also? Mixed responses.

If your in the U.K. IFollow allows you to listen to all games with radio Suffolk. Other that ones against teams who aren't part of the service.

You also get extended highlights and ability to watch the whole
Match back a day or so after

£4.99 a month £45 a year (I think)

Well my son was listening to Brenner and Mick Mills doing the Luton game on Tuesday night from the North East. I think he goes onto the interweb to get to Radio Suffolk

And I can't see Ifollow being in a hurry to stop it happening, when they are receiving 110 quid from everyone who takes advantage of the loophole.

I'd like a link to that please, as for the past 20 years I've found it impossible to get up here! (just south of Ripon). Going online just directs you to your local station, ie BBC Radio York.

Ah right. But I imagine that the OP is wanting all coverage, incl the bread and butter of league games.

It really is - basically, ITFC are imposing a tax on people living out of the area, to be able to follow ITFC on radio - something people in Suffolk get for free.

You'd have thought the club would be falling over themselves to attract new listeners/new fans/keep existing fans happy!

I regularly listen to commentary from Sheffield previously on Player and this season on iFollow. Details are on www.itfc.co.uk or download iFollow Ipswich to your phone/tablet. Can pay monthly or yearly.

It's not ITFC it's the football league. the BBC Suffolk contract only allows games to be broadcast in the local region. Not sure why to be honest. But it's not ITFC or BBC Suffolk's fault.

That'll block it during matches too.

I hate the situation, also living outside the FM area for Suffolk. I will not pay any more to listen to a BBC service already paid for by public money (especially when the delivery is so erratic / poor).

I think our season tickets should include that too, to be honest, seeing as I'll be at half the games it covers anyway.

....you can pick up commentary through freeview channel 720.

The signal reach is much further than the radio.

Enduringly lovable, intelligent and thunderingly exquisite.
