Thought the rule from a couple of years ago was if it’s a penalty for ‘denying a goal scoring opportunity’ it’s no red as they still have an opportunity from the spot

Think that only applies if the ref thinks there is a genuine attempt to play the ball.

Thought the rule was red if the foul was seen as deliberate, yellow if deemed u intentional. Worth an appeal since most of Chambers cards are for 'late' tackles.

Was to today the first time we have played Leeds and picked up more cards than them ?

Was given for pulling him back by the shirt according to the gesture of the ref.

Red card if the player don't make a genuine attempt to play the ball.
Hard to tell in this instance.
Sums up referees against us this season though, as he didn't hesitate to get out the red card.
Makes it even better now though beating them with only 10 men!

Their Keeper should have had a red in the first half though - always seems to go against us.

Glad he never though as the sub keeper may not have gifted us the winner.
But you are right though about decisions always seem to go against us this season.

All of the below neeeds to be ticked for it to be a red card offence. I never expected it to be a red card.

“denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent whose overall movement is towards the offender’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick (unless as outlined below)”

The following must be considered:

distance between the offence and the goal
general direction of the play
likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
location and number of defenders

Push or pull, is not playing the ball... red card all day long.

Ticks those boxes for me - so yes should have been a red.

Definitely a goal scoring opportunity, heading towards goal and past last man with an empty net.

I would be very disappointed if our keeper was shown a red card that wide out.

If the Ref deemed it a pull, which it is what he indicated, then it’s definitely a red card as it’s not classed as a genuine attempt to play the ball. Whether he did actually pull him I was unable to see.

His was more of a red than Chambo (to be honest yellow for both was probably right in my view as Quaner was going away from goal), Chambo's didn't look like a deliberate foul from the Sir Alf, and the Leeds fans I was next too agreed, they weren't even convinced it was a pen.

Overall movement was away from goal. Towards the corner flag, again, right decision by the referee. Yellow by law.

So cleaning the attacker out with a poor challenge is just a yellow?

If it is outside the penalty area, and denies a goal scoring opportunity it is red. If it is inside the box and deemed to be unintentional, even if it denies a goal scoring opportunity then it is only a yellow.

The thinking behind it seems to be that the awarding of a penalty means there is still a goal scoring opportunity.
