Interesting timing - Western security services warned of potential terrorist attacks in Moscow just a couple of weeks ago. Whether this is related to Ukraine, it seems more likely Chechnyans given previous similar attacks.

Edit: islamists and even returning Russian soldiers could have been the perpetrators, but predictably Moscow is preparing to blame Ukraine:

And as entirely predicted, Putin is inferring a link to
Ukraine for the attack.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

'The Russian justice ministry has labelled two prominent journalists - BBC Russian correspondent Ilya Barabanov and science reporter Asya Kazantseva - as "foreign agents"...The term "foreign agent" recalls the Soviet-era campaign against "enemies of the people". "Foreign agents" have to identify themselves as such on social media and in other publications, and face burdensome financial reporting requirements.

Both Barabanov and Kazantseva are now living abroad.'

I think this may be the beginning of the end. How come the US is able to send equipment to Israel but Ukraine's weaponry seems caught up in the financial deal between the Democrats and the Republicans?

Because the IDF needs precision guided munitions to make sure it takes out every building in Gaza.

Don't want to take the chance of missing one using dumb munitions.

Even more pointed is the haste that the US sent aircraft to take out the Iranian drones/missiles to protect a country that already has an 'Iron Dome' to defend itself while Ukraine beg for air protection.

Someone interviewed on the World Service earlier today stated that attack on Israel was just the push needed to get agreement for the military aid package for Ukraine and Israel.

He suggested it might happen in the next few days but did say that it was Trump and his allies who were opposing it.

'one of the largest aerial assaults in history' says the Quantum Flux tweet, does that need to be fact checked ? Speaking as the child of someone who lived through the Blitz, I would say so.

This is what Ukraine is reduced to doing to protect itself from invasion.

About time the Americans ( especially the Republicans ) got the bigger picture in Ukraine.

Finally... the House of Representatives has voted through the $61 bn aid package to Ukraine

Delayed from October last year, it passed by 311 votes for, 112 against.... very nearly 2/3rds majority

The 6 month delay has caused untold deaths and problems for Ukraine, impossible to quantify but had the aid package been put in place in a more timely manner then the situation on the ground in Ukraine would look very different

Should we be grateful to the efforts of the House Speaker for pushing this through....or furious with him for the entirely avoidable delays?

US seem to be learning that being soft on Putin does not work.

America's dallying has cost thousands of lives and made Ukraine's work massively harder. Fingers crossed their current renewed enthusiasm holds. It is within the gift of the US (and west in general) to ensure Ukraine wins, but it requires conviction.

Interesting in the end that Trump dropped his opposition to the agreement. And this is why I’ve held the view that his erratic foreign policy is why Putin would favour a Biden Presidency. Ultimately, Trump will do what he thinks furthers his interests, not those of others. For Putin, Trump would be an incredibly unreliable and unpredictable ’ally’. Certainly from a Ukrainian perspective, and isolationist and impulsive US president must be a huge concern.

Traditionally businesses (both domestically in the US and in the West) lean toward Republican governance due to the general mantra of low taxation and light touch regulation. However, what I’m seeing is businesses viewing a Trump Republican presidency as a significant risk due to his unpredictability. At the moment a status quo Democrat government is seen as preferable in terms of economic, political, and regulatory stability.

A Trump win would also see the US on collision course with China. Whilst we tend to view the greenback through the eyes of Sterling and EUR, it’s been motoring versus major Asian currencies too. This will hit American exports to Asia, and see Chinese imports become even cheaper for US consumers - with Trump likely to ramp up another trade war and tariffs as he did in his first presidency (ramping up geopolitical tensions). The US elections are huge for Ukraine, and the wider world.
