They asked if we had a plan B before the game 20:16 - Aug 6 with 873 viewsbillabasblue

I think we absolutely proved we do after the game

First 20 minutes it felt like a newly promoted side against a top championship side and felt weird for us to be on the receiving end of that, they were like us last season just without much quality in the box.

We still had the better chances over the whole game and IMO deserved to win, as our first game you couldn’t have picked many harder places to go and we showed lots of different aspects to our game which was pleasing.

I feel we definitely need to bring in a couple more players that can improve what we have in reserve as I’m not sure harness , ladapo , Jackson etc are championship players but our best 11 is certainly a top 6-10 side in my view.

Sunderland we’re clearly better then any side we played home or away last season and we got
The better of them so that bodes well as we will have easier tests ahead

We don't have a plan b. We are just good at what we do. We'll lose a few but teams will hate playing against us. We don't have to adapt...they do.

We do have a plan b, and today showed it. Today was an exaggerated (and less comfortable) version of the games at Barnsley, Derby, Bolton, and Peterborough last season. We weren't as fussed about dominating the ball on those games or today, it was more about keeping our shape and showing quality on the break, with spells of dictating the tempo when able. That's very different from how we play when we know we're likely to have more of the ball.

Exactly right , our plan A is 65-70 % posession , 25 shots on goal
And scoring 4/5 goals whilst mauling the opposition

Today and In a number of other games this season we won’t be able to
Produce plan A so our plan B is key and today we soaked up the pressure and limited them to few chances whilst always looking likely to score ourselves , second half with our press
It felt like we strangled the life out of them without even having much of the ball I learnt more today than I did most of last season about us and we will
Do just fine this season injuries permitting

Agreed but, to add to that, McK is also very good at adjusting tactics and positioning within games.

Yes, absolutely. Second half yesterday we started much more on the front foot and for 10-15 minutes we barely let them out of their half and we nearly completely killed the game. That was quite different from much of the first half where we had to sit deeper and keep our shape and look for opportunities on the break.
