And I suppose it could be argued that worthy political candidates would be thin on the ground anyway. Perhaps the solution would be to open it up to (or even limit it to) the type of non-political people who become crossbench peers. Lord Anderson of Ipswich springs to mind! But maybe the person would need to be more well known. Baroness Grey-Thompson would be an example, or Lord (Norman) Foster of Thames Bank. [Post edited 19 Sep 2023 9:04]
