Been a lively debate once or twice on this forum regarding Clarke's positioning as he so often tucks in towards the centre backs in most games . Axel did the same many times yesterday so as has been pointed out by some of us that is how KM wants his right back to play when defending . Another interesting point , warm up yesterday heading and clearance practice instead of the usual 4 defenders we went into a 5 to include Burns .

Well, it's bene obvious to most that in effect we play with a back three.

Davis hugs the line and bombs forward, the RB tucks in, with Burns hugging the other touchline.

Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...
Poll: As things stand, how confident are you we will get promoted this season?

Not really. Clarke gets forward and stays wide in a way Burgess very rarely does.

It has been an odd lopsided formation for a long time.

Suspect that's one of the reasons we must be so hard to play against - it's such an unusual and lopsided way of playing.

Certainly unusual think it's main purpose is to give Leif free licence to bomb forward hence his assists , Burgess goes well left then the other two move left and when possible Wes drops into right back . Risk v gain .

And that’s Clarke’s Achilles Heel right there. He’s supposed to be tucked in to a three to let Leif push on but is so desperate to bomb on that he breaks out and over-commits when we don’t have clean possession leaving us as a back two, with Woolfy and Cam outnumbered and outpaced.

The opposition know this and frequently look to dink the ball in behind him.

Watch the first West Brom goal at home. What on earth Clarke is doing I’ll never know.

I suspect he is following instructions.
