They are really aiding support for grassroots football though.

Yes but sadly inevitable though. They have also agreed to let the PL finish the week after the cup final too.

In some ways, that IS good for grass roots. Any non-league teams in the 1st or 2nd Round may be capable of beating a higher-ranked team in a one-off encounter but not in a replay.

Don't understand keeping them in qualifying, where long away trips midweek are likely to be more of a financial burden for clubs, but scrap them in the competition proper, where away games can be extremely lucrative for lower league sides.

Cray Valley Paper Mills and Horsham were very happy with having their home replays this season.

They just don't get it. Wonder if they just had a vote amongst the big 6 and not any of the clubs who would actually be involved in these games.

In terms of getting through, yes but if not having a replay means missing out on a big away day for non-league teams, this could result in missing out on a pay day of a life time.

The news is massively dissapointing for non league teams

Because it's about what th big teams want, and they don't give a damn about non-league. They only play lip service to it because of the threat of an independent adjudicator.

they're saying there's too many games for the top clubs to play (just before they add a load of extra ones in the upcoming club world cup)

Due to expanding uefa competitions...what like the trash UEFA Conference league?

Replays are a big chance for the little teams to see a big team at their local. Top level football is really becoming crap isnt it? Promotion and 1/2 seasons of playing the big boys will be amazing but i have a feeling some fans may end up welcoming a return to championship if we arent pushing for european places...

If they go through though they get the prize money for that round and the opportunity of a draw at a big club in the next round.

The 'glamour' replay doesn't happen particularly often whereas clubs going through to later rounds will probably happen fairly regularly now as they grind out a draw on win on pens.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out of the next couple of years but I think it's likely more clubs will benefit financially from this than lose.

That's my point. The replays invariably result in the bigger team/club getting their sh*t together and winning comfortably.

Yes, the non-league team may benefit from staging the replay, but they'll likely get much more money from winning the first game and getting a plum 3rd round tie a la Maidstone.

"The Emirates FA Cup Final will now take place on the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season, on an exclusive Saturday with no Premier League fixtures taking place on the same day. Additionally, there will be no Premier League games on the Friday night before the Final, to allow focus on the build-up to the showpiece event."

So, they are not ruling our have fixtures the Sunday after the Saturday final.

That horror show at Lincoln springs to mind here.

Think it is the right thing and to do and whilst lower league clubs might lose out financially, they do effectively stand a better chance of progressing each round, with no replays, you'd feel.
