Bitter Sweet 21:22 - May 2 with 1288 viewsPendejo

Today at midday a friend of mine passed away, someone I'd known since moving to Ipswich at the age of 3.

Whilst he was a town fan, he wasn't a regular attendee.

As kids with our parents, and into teens as a group from the estate. our
We took him to Charlton for the famous 3-2 FA Cup win the day Deller won the darts, and he was one of dozens of Chantry kids there the day Dozzell made history.

I travelled to Ipswich specifically to see him last Saturday in Parkview, opposite Chantry Park. Told him I'd be back to see him Sunday warning him I'd have a monster hand over. He was in good spirits, but looked dreadful.

But when I noticed the WhatsApp messages weren't being viewed let alone responded to I knew. I let it get to me and had a row with a colleague that almost went beyond words, he's 6-5 and 25 stone... I'm a lot shorter and lighter.

Got a message from my oldest male offspring offering condolences for my loss, he'd seen it on FB and knew my friend as he'd taught 2 of my kids. Then a LinkedIn message from his older brother.
I cried a little, I didn't when either my mother or step-mother passed away. Explain that.

Dropped a WhatsApp on one of the Town fans I'd met on day of Naaaridge game who told me he'd been taught and inspired enough to take his subject to degree level.

The bitter? Wish he could have lived to see Town get promoted.

The sweet? One more game.

Life/death can be a kick in the nuts and bring you down to Earth just like that.
I got a message from my 19 year old daughter earlier who is currently in training to be a mental health nurse....
"Just went to an assessment, she's hung herself."
She was 37, her boyfriend who didn't know at this point had lost his father to suicide a few weeks ago. I am stuck somewhere between complete pride and total fear for my girl's welfare.
Hopefully Town will get the job done for us all, including your friend. COYB.

Thank you for posting this. I’m sorry to hear of your loss. Your friend is somebody who clearly made a difference shaping lives. As teachers do. There’s no finer legacy.

We are going to do this. For him and those we’ve lost.

Wow. Sad to read that. Big love to you.

If we finish the job on Saturday, there's a few people I'll be thinking of as well. And one or two who posted on here and shared ramblings with at stupid o'clock.

Take care and COYBS.
