Goodbye to Dad on Saturday 11:11 - May 3 with 3264 viewsZipster

Please remove if not allowed.

Unfortunately, we lost our Dad (Val Powell) last week, he has been going to matches for over 60 years, some of you may recognise him from Section 5 of the North Stand Lower where he has been ever-present, he was not shy so if you bump into him then you probably got a conversation from him!

We know it's a big ask given the circumstances on Saturday and supporters will have other things on their minds but any involvement would be much appreciated.

My sister (Louise) and niece (Jasmine) will be in his seat (and next to his seat) for anyone who knew him and wants to say hello.

Mum has received so many messages from his footballing family in the North Stand which has been so wonderful, lets give him the send-off he deserves for his dedication to this amazing club with applause on the 81st minute.

If you have been one of those who have sent messages then thank you very much, it is very much appreciated.

Here are a couple of articles with photos:

Many condolences for your loss.

It is not a big ask at all. Come what may, in the 81st minute I will be showing your dad the respect he richly deserves.

Condolences to you and your family. I used to go to PR and away games with my Dad back in the late fifties early sixties. Time is a healer, but you never forget the happy memories. Seems impossible that 15 years have passed since my Dad passed away. Wish you and your family all the best and may your dear dad rest in peace. Hopefully he will hear the roar from Portman Road at the end of the match.

I read the Star article in the paper earlier today and was touched by it. I'll certainly be applauding loudly come the 81st minute.

Sorry to read of your loss Zipster.
I have read elsewhere about some applause on the 89th minute too but have no link. Maybe somebody else has?

Sorry to read of your loss and let’s hope Town and our fans can give you and your family a special occasion tomorrow. 60 + years as a north stander is quite an achievement, I moved to The Churchmans in may late forties for a quieter experience. Get the sense your Dad was a Town legend, and what a cool name too.

So Sorry to hear this at what would hopefully have been a very special moment in his long football memory. He, along with another gentleman , 89 , who also passed away this week, will be celebrated in those minutes, so let yourself go, hopefully smile, because I’m sure the team will have done them proud, and those gents will be smiling. Once a Blue..

Condolences, I heard I had lost a cousin (also 81 years of age) three hours before the Coventry game. Football can temporarily take our mind off bereavement but the weight on us remains, stay strong for those left.
