But 2-1 away against a team that’s started like Boro have isn’t the end of the world at all. We weren’t great today but if that penalty goes in it’s a different story entirely.

Improvement is needed but this is still a squad that’s largely unfamiliar with eachother.

We’ll get there

I haven’t read the whole thread so I may be repeating thoughts of other posters. Came on here just after full time, and was amazed at the vitriol directed at McKenna. The fact is that the players generally didn’t perform last night. The two in the middle were ineffective, and absolutely nothing came from the wide players. The Norwegian lad may prove to be a great signing, but he looks like a lost soul.I thought Hirst did well, penalty miss apart, and Szmodics was lively but he really isn’t a 10 . Of the current squad I don’t know who is best suited to this role. Maybe either Nunez or Cajouste can be coached into doing it. And ,by the way Middlesborough are a good team.

Chaplin is the best suited to this role!

Throw in Humphreys, don't think he'd do any worse than Sammy

Boro away is the biggest test. Look at their goals against.

Only trouble is we will be competing with them. So needed to take points from them. Lets hope they lose to lower teams.

They just lost to Portsmouth...

I Genuinelly felt like it was ipswich v leeds away again. Where we could have scored 3 but boro should have scored more. we just didn't manage the game well at all, far far to advanced by our side when ever we got to the final third, leaving just 2 defenders on halfway inviting the counter.

All rather odd considering the pace of boro's lineup

At Leeds away, we did not miss a penalty and a number of other decent chances.

It was nothing like Leeds away.

Sorry should have said the home game, where we left gaping holes when ever we attacked.

This is when you should have been flouncing. Pathetic performance from four or five first choice players. You could tell how angry OShea was after the game.

WE DEMAND IMMEDIATE SUCCESS

Most clubs who get relegated from the Premier League have some degree of success in the division below, in the following season.

Another way of looking at it is that we have gone backwards in 18 months. Being unimpressed with going backwards having spent untold millions is not demanding instant success. Let alone in all caps.

In fact, most clubs who get relegated from the Premier League struggle a bit at the start of the following season.

Good, im encouraged by this...thrres hope. When we play we'll, no one can touch us can they.

For last night I do think the international break played a part. A lot of our players didn't report back until late Weds or even early Thursday morning. Minimal prep tine if any before they travelled to Boro... and then there's the actual travelling the plsyers fud this international break. Why were we the onky clubs asked to play straight after this break?...dont tell me, Sky wanted it!!

Last night I thought we looked so pedestrian ( but we often are especially away ftom honestly...tactic? I dont know). It resembled almost a training game from our players in that first half.... if only McKenna had made his substitutions much earlier. Frankly around the 50th min when our tempo would have gone up several notches. We needed to win thus yet, he still sticks to his same old routine on 70 mins or thereabouts. So much so, that Edwards goes to a back 5 ( having changed from His normal tactics to go with a back four from the start of the game). McKenna seems incapable or to stubborn to vary his approach. This I find very frustrating...and im not the only one. But he'll do what he'll do and we'll see where we end up. Hopefully promotion, but im not convinced.

Surely you see the big chances we didn't score (and the other pen we didn't get)?!

Makes me laugh when you negative twonks see every opposition chance as a goal but don't afford the same generosity to your own team!

Its not being a negative twonk pointing out several sub-standard performances on the pitch. Not picking that out means you are a deluded twonk.

Yea thats how I feel.
All theflouncers on the game thread.
Handball to prevent goal.
Penalty save by excellent dive.
Own goal from attempted clearance.

It just all went their way at home.

I'm afraid we're still in third gear. And lets save Philogene for the home games if McKenna is perhaps making him pass the ball on the box edge?

They squeezed it, but common, it was close don't flounce.

From what I saw last night we haven’t got out of first gear yet. Haven’t seen anything yet this season to convince me we will finish anywhere near the top 6.
