If you had the power to reset football. What would you do? 18:22 - Oct 27 with 3349 viewsFrimleyBlue

My list would be:

No VAR
All league football played at 3pm Saturdays or 7 45 Tuesdays. No 3pm blackout.
Only league or cup winners go into championsleague
Only 2nd and third get the eufa cup
Only two kits per club. Maximum one kit swap per season
No PSR but there would be wage caps
Limits on youth loans out
No agents for footballers under 18. These would fall under a governing body

I'd make the FA Cup the most important trophy in domestic football again by doing the following:

Winners get a Champions League spot (take that away from 4th/5th league finish)
Replays back
Restore cup games to proper kick off times
Semis at Villa Park/Old Trafford etc.
Bigger prize money
No VAR

Also entire day's build up on BBC. Shots of team leaving hotels etc.
Managers must wear suits

The traditionalist in me says yes to all games at 3pm on a Sunday but I do like a Monday night football when there’s nothing else on TV.

Put in a globally agreed salary cap. As it stands, football financing is obscene.

I would make the rules much more clear-cut as opposed to the ambiguous ones we have at present. That would solve so much that is wrong.

Make corner takers put the ball properly in the quadrant and not faff about so it is overhanging the line by 1 millimetre. Hmm maybe that's more about a pet hate than a reset. Probably just agree with the ridiculous amount of money in the game these days, so some sort of salary cap (for the squad as a whole).

F.A Cup back how it used to be. Replays until someone wins. Semi finals at neutral grounds. Final kicking off at 3pm on the Saturday. Only use Wembley for the final.
League matches kick off at 3pm on a Saturday. 7.45pm Tuesday or Wednesday nights.
Bring back standing. All the kids on stools. I remember being held up by the crowds when my Dad took me years ago when we were playing in the old first division. Bobby grinning as he walked by to the old dug outs in his long Mac. Those really were the days !

I wouldn’t reset football as such. If half the things people suggested were implemented (or Sky never invested in football) most stadiums would be giant urinals and all of the better players would be playing abroad.

In terms of rules, I would punish time wasting by keepers with hockey type short corners. And time wasting throw-ins, would be punished with the other team gaining a free kick.

And players going down injured would need to go off the pitch for at least two mins.

I'd agree with most of that. But I'd have a Champions League for all European league champions and a Cup Winners' Cup for the cup winners. Like the good old days.

Proper shin pads and long socks. Come on, it's not exactly like wearing chainmail armour. Get a grip!

Yellow cards for diving/injury simulation, back chat to refs and petty 'handbags' between players.

Can't add too much to the other excellent suggestions other than to reintroduce the reading of the classified football results at 5pm on Sports Report.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Judging by the Jurassic type of replies this thread has had, can you imagine the type of meltdown that would generate if that draft was televised? Plus a lot of the better young players would simply tell the smallest clubs to f**k off.

Rugby style stop clock - 30 minutes each side - no point time wasting if you are not actually wasting time

Fewer subs - three max + keeper

Yellow for ref backchat

Proper head injury protocol - they go off and one of the subs can come on as a temp sub

VAR - if we have to keep it, let’s hear what they are saying

Refs should never give minor fouls. Then players will stop looking for them and the play will flow so much better. The worst thing in a football game is if it is too stop start.

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

I know that this may well not be popular - but on a very local level, I’d put Blue Action in the middle of the lower NS.
