I will stick my head above the parapet: I was gutted Scotland got through. Didn’t want wales to get through either. Guess I am a miserable, bitter and twisted oldie stuck in the 1970’s and 1980’s rivalries!!! Plus the Scot’s and Welsh detest us with a passion, and the only thing they want more than their own teams qualifying, is England failing, and it’s a close run thing between those two!! I mean, I like the Scot’s and Welsh people’s, but I don’t want their footy teams to succeed on any level. There, I’ve said it. Speak to my lawyer (lovely Scotsman, very happy for him). |

My rivalry also goes back to the 70s when I couldn't (with two Scottish parents) persuade anyone in my class in Ipswich to support Scotland in 74 and 78 because they were jealous that England hadn't qualified.
Even though I had supported England as a 10 year old in 1970, from 1974 onwards it was Scotland for me, and England be damned.
But it is only a sporting rivalry. [Post edited 19 Nov 2025 14:20]
