It does need some context. Based on that article, it appears that it increases the likelihood of faults where there is a pre-existing fault line. So I'd expect the pro-fossil fuel lobby in the UK to bat this away without much problem.

Haven't looked in detail though.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

It is a very difficult subject for general understanding.

There are many downsides to fracking not least the risk of earthquakes that never get a full airing because there are so many very powerful vested interests.

The full impact of drilling in these cases has never been revealed anywhere other tahn on the technical sites with specific details than I doubt the layman would understand much of it.

In America a lot of this is done in very remote areas, no such remote areas exists here on these islands.

Whether it's true or not that is an awfully written article. It says the USGS said something definitely and then uses their exact quote which begins with "May".

It's an example of massive confirmation bias, they are reading exactly what they want to read.

A magnitude 2.7 earthquake is absolutely tiny.

However, none of that takes way from the fact that fraking does cause extremely minor earthquakes.

"A magnitude 2.7 earthquake is absolutely tiny."

Maybe not if you are on the crapper at the time

An unfortunately place to be maybe, however you are more likely to feel any possible splashback than the earthquake.

From wikipedia:

"Felt slightly by some people. No damage to buildings."

Don't disagree with that, I'm far from a fan. Although it's a pretty cool trick to be able to set your tap water on fire if you live near a well that's been breached.

Only just seen - cheers - it's all grist to the mill ...

Poll: Why can't/don't we protest like the French do? 🤔
