Away fans 14:07 - Feb 8 with 2451 viewsmattyboar

My colleague is a Leeds fan and they've sold out their allocation. We usually have the tier below the away fans reserved for pay on the day, does anyone know if that applies to the Leeds game?

I have a feeling that their reputation may stop it!

They'll be all over the ground, as per normal.

One of my fave fixtures this one. Tidy atmosphere.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

When you say 'tidy' do you mean Ipswich fans goading them and giving them sh1t from the other side of a wall of Police and stewards, before running away at the first threat of a reaction like the day we sent them down at Bellend Road?

Not that I'm endorsing violence of course.

Just think that there's an old school edge to things which normally results in the away fans being either kicked out or moved out of the home ends when they inevitably score. It's just a bit more lively rather than violent.

I did read that a Huddersfield fan has been banned for life for unfurling a Turkey flag at the weekend. Understandably the "Champions of Europe" got a bit upset.

That is not how I remember that day at Elland Road, unless I am misunderstanding your post.
I remember some pretty wild celebrations by us at Alan Lee's equalizer(maybe a bit over the top as it did not mean too much to us)and then a while later the starting of their pitch invasion.
Their invasion grew into something quite substantial and threatening and with the players being taken off and me coming to the conclusion that they would not be coming back I thought the best place to be was out of there(not running away though).
I have no idea what happened inside the ground after that other than the last few seconds of the game eventually being played.

Millwall fans do that every time they play Leeds.....strangely no-one seems to care one bit down there

I don't think the repetitive "going down" chants at them were particularly helpful, and that wasn't from a small section of our supporters. A group of their fans nearby us looked like rabid dogs from the start, frothing at the mouth and to have trackied up townies goading them with w@nker signs was always going to end in tears. Not endorsing their behavior of course, you're spot on the invasion was substantial and completely out of order. Just ironic that the fans giving them the most lip were the ones running so quickly for the exit. I'm sure you weren't one of them.

I waited in the ground until the end just to see what was going to happen as I was probably more brave / stupid then.

Yes,I forgot about the "going down" chants.

If I had thought that there was any way that the game would restart I would probably have stayed in there but as I said, with me thinking it was over being outside seemed safer than being inside.

In a way I wish I had stayed because that remains the only ITFC game that I have not seen the end of.

If I was in that situation, I think I'd have stayed. I'd have thought that I'd feel safer inside the ground with the police everywhere (I assume they were?) than outside with the loonies.

Of course this is only speculation

Most of the Leeds loonies were on the pitch.
There were not many people outside.
When it became clear that the game was in fact going to restart I did think of going back in but decided against it.

I remember there being a few police, but not as many as they needed given the amount of people on the pitch. I would say getting out was probably the safest thing as the loons we're all on the pitch, so you probably could've made a swift getaway. I was expecting them to break through into the away fans and for it to really kick off.

Haha good, you can now say you've seen the end! It was weird as all 22 players, staff, ref, managers etc just wanted to get off the pitch, especially our lads. Never seen some of them run so fast as they did when that whistle went. Shane Supple was like a greyhound out of the traps towards the tunnel.

My daughter and myself were in the wheelchair section that day and the only thing separating us and those morons were a line of police.
To be fair to the police they did a great job that day in protecting the Town fans in the disabled section. After the game had finished we were then escorted around the pitch and loads of genuine Leeds fans came up to us and apologised.

Glad to hear you were well looked after. To be fair to a lot of the Leeds fans there were chants from the majority of decent supporters of 'You're the scum of Elland Road' down towards those invading the pitch. Like all clubs it's only a minority of idiots who spoil it, just the Leeds minority seems to be bigger than most clubs. Theirs seems to be more like 20% rather than 2%.
