It's ok, slightly undermined by it not being a myth. I suppose it's something that can be levelled at the BBC though with the spoon fed diet of thick, ex-player pundits they keep throwing at us.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Indeed, Taylor may not have been that type of player up to that point but from Sunday he has become that type of player whether deliberately or otherwise.

Of the many reasons there are to find Robbie Savage a massive bellend, his total inability/unwilllingness to see things from the perspective of the people who ultimately pay for the game to exist is possibly the biggest.

I've been saying the same thing for years. Though it is an issue across most sport, just in Football it is accentuated given the size of the bubble the sport is in.

Players who become coaches, roll out the same training routine they had as players and same messages with very little opportunity for innovation. The ex players turned pundits only confirm that with their 'expert punditry'

If you look at other sports who have opened their doors to skills and knowledge from across the sporting landscape you'll see that they have excelled and innovated, achieving international success. Football is a long way behind many Olympic sports in their efficient protocols and processes and will be for ever whilst the cycle of ex pros walk into leadership roles unquestioned due to their past life as players.

"He's not that type of player"?

The type of player to go out to deliberately finish another player's career? Of course not.

The type of player to recklessly jump in with no thought to the consequences? Quite likely. There are lots of players who do just that, with regularity. It's what they used to call, leaving a mark on a player. It wasn't about damaging a player, but making them hesitate next time they go into a tackle.

There's an incredible picture in Legends Bar, check it out next time you go in - Terry Butcher, for England vs Spain, flying through the air almost horizontally, with Mariner looking on. Both feet are off the floor, one of his feet at the height of the opponent's knee. I bet Butcher wasn't even booked. It might not have even been a free kick.

Amazing what used to be allowed that isn't now.

To be fair, the very ends of the toes on his right foot are just about in contact with the ground there!
