I do get your point a little but if Connor Chaplin expressed his boyhood love of Barnsley and went to watch them when he isn't involved for us, I would have no issue. Provided he gives 100% for us, including against them, we can't complain really. |  |

There's supporting a club you support, and then there's wearing one of their shirts whilst actually being a signed professional footballer - especially for a side in the same division.
If Chaplin went to support Barnsley or whatever, I wouldn't mind. But if they then started wearing their shirts etc I would be less keen.
I can see what people are saying here, but if I was a Charlton fan, I would be even less impressed with him.

He's not played since he liked that instagram post. His contract is up at the end of the season and he was told last week he wouldn't be involved today and he'll be released.

I don't think I'd have any problem with a player not in a match day squad going to support his boyhood club particularly. It's a little bit more sensitive when in same league I suppose.
Liking our win after they got hammered by us though was outrageously silly and disrespectful to Charlton and their fans. That really lacked professionalism.
Players can support their boyhood clubs but it's really obvious that should keep it more discrete.
