Mentally and physically drained 20:08 - Aug 6 with 218 viewsGlasgowBlue

Welcome back to the championship Ipswich Town.

We were very nervy for the first ten minutes. Hladky looked the most nervous with the ball at his feet and after a couple of poor passes we had to change our normal game time to bypass him.

But all eleven players grew into the game and despite the early possession by Sunderland, it was Tiwn who had the most goal scoring chances.

Once we went one up you could feel the confidence run through the team and the supporters. And when Hirst scored our second we were absolutely bossing the game.

Imo we should have had a penalty and it was game over. But it was hard to be sure from the opposite end of the pitch. Regardless, we looked very comfortable………

…….and then came the sending off. From that moment onwards we couldn’t get hold of the ball. And on the rare occasion we did, we couldn’t keep it. We had a man advantage and quite a few fresh legs, but Sunderland played with so much desire.

When they scored their goal I feared another Sheff Wednesday. Sunderland really went for it and other than Freddie skying the ball when all he had to do was square it, our backs were against the wall.

As for the nervous Hladky. He pulled off a magnificent double save to win us the game.

13 minutes though? WTF. Other than a bit of time wasting and Janoi going down, it should have been ten at the most.

Phew! What a game. Hope they aren’t all like this.
