Burley Watches Ashton
Burley Watches Ashton

Town manager George Burley and Chief Scout Colin Suggett were at the Hawthorns last night to watch Crewe draw 2-2 with West Brom. And their target is claimed to have been Crewe's 17-year-old striker Dean Ashton, the scorer of the first Crewe goal before being replaced at half-time.

Ashton is a real youngster, a first year trainee in fact, and has started just three first team games so far with another five appearances as sub. He has already scored three goals.

Given Ashton's youth and lack of League experience we wonder whether Town may have had a different target last night, although with Crewe's phenomenal record for producing youngsters Town could have been getting an early look at a long-term prospect.

Today's Do You Remember? star is Bobby Petta. With Mark Burchill moving from Celtic to Town we thought we'd look at a player who moved in the other direction. What did you think to Bobby Petta's strange Town career? Click the link on the Message Board: http://www.twtd.co.uk/messages
