Ferguson Accuses Harte
Ferguson Accuses Harte
Tuesday, 6th Mar 2001 10:08

Alex Ferguson has accused Ian Harte of deliberately attempting to get players sent off after Saturday's Manchester United-Leeds penalty controversy. Harte, of course, was at the centre of the Marcus Stewart sending off last month, an incident which has seen Town without the striker for three matches.

Ferguson was speaking in response to Lucas Radebe who claimed that there is one law for Manchester United and one for everyone else. Ferguson said: "Who have had the most penalties in England? Leeds, and Harte is the one who scores them.

"The accusation is nonsense and an easy one to make. We all know that Harte gets players sent off, even in Europe. It [diving] is a European thing that has crept into English football.

"But I would not condone my players doing that. We are an honest team. We have won the Fair Play League for the last three years."

We reckon Stewart might have had his red card rescinded had this happened a few weeks ago. Oh well.

With much talk about the reported transfer of Chris Makin we thought today was the ideal time to look back at the career of a player who left Town to join the Rokerites (hate this Black Cats thing don't you?). We are also assessing opinion on the Makin transfer. Is it a good deal? Check the frontpage poll: http://www.twtd.co.uk
