Wright No to Cardiff
Wright No to Cardiff
Wednesday, 4th Jul 2007 12:49

Town target Richard Wright has turned down the chance to join Cardiff City and will sign for the Blues, according to reports in Wales. Wright has long been tipped to return to Portman Road having been released by Everton at the end of the season.

The ex-Arsenal and England keeper is understood to have been the Bluebirds' top target as a replacement for Neil Alexander, who left the club in May. Although Cardiff have refused to confirm that Wright was the man they were after, chairman Peter Ridsdale has conceded that they have failed to land their number one target despite lengthy talks.

Wright is keen to find a club where he can play regularly after several seasons spent largely on the bench at Everton and Arsenal. Town have admitted that negotiations have taken place with the 29-year-old, but have repeatedly denied suggestions that a deal is already done and dusted.

The signing of Wright would almost certainly mean Lewis Price leaving the club. Price, who has a year left on his Town deal, has confirmed that he would go elsewhere to find first team football as he looks to regain his place in the Wales side.

Meanwhile, former Town chief scout Colin Suggett has left Carlisle United after a year in a similar position with the Cumbrians. Suggett was at Portman Road until last summer when he moved on along with former boss Joe Royle and assistant manager Willie Donachie.
