Strasser Linked Again
Strasser Linked Again
Monday, 26th Mar 2001 10:34

Luxembourg's Jeff Strasser was again mentioned in connection with Town this weekend. The highly-rated Kaiserslautern defender was reported to be a target of the Blues and of Fulham, another side linked previously with the player.

The 26-year-old is rated as Luxembourg's best player and can also play in midfield.

Meanwhile George Burley has commented on the two Heerenveen players coming to train at Town. As reported last week Marc Van Eijk and Ian Claes will be spending time at Portman Road to gain experience of the English game. George Burley explained the relationship with the Dutch club: "We have a close relationship with Heerenveen and we will be giving these two young players the opportunity to train with us over the next few weeks."

Earlier in the season Bryan Klug talked about the link between Town and Heerenveen: "In many ways they are a similar club to to Ipswich. They have to rely on their youth scheme to provide players."

Claes is a 20-year-old striker, while Van Eijk is also a forward and is 19-years-old. Claes is a Belgian U21 international.

Town's reserves will get a run-out this evening at Leicester. As mentioned in his column last week John Scales will be making his return after injury while Gary Croft was forced to pull-out with further knee problems.

Also missing is youngster Darren Ambrose who has been called into the England U18 squad. Town will be fielding a young side against the Foxes who beat Town 2-1 in the return fixture at Portman Road in August.

Town squad: Salmon, Artun, Beevers, Miller, Scales, Moffat, Abidallah, Bloomfield, Logan, Graaven, Nicholls, Bent, Snowdon, Pullen and Dickinson.

This week's first Do You Remember? hero is Bontcho Guentchev. With Hermann scoring a goal as Iceland lost to Bulgaria we thought it was time to look back at Town's Bulgarian legend. What were your memories? Click the link on the Message Board: http://www.twtd.co.uk/messages
