Cork City manager Alan Mathews says Town have told midfielder George O'Callaghan that he can find a new club. Cork, from whom O'Callaghan joined Town a year ago, are one of a number of clubs on both sides of the Irish Sea interested in the 28-year-old.

Mathews said: "Ipswich Town have advised him that he can move on. He has a number of options in Britain. I met his agent again yesterday and we'll be hopeful that we can put together a package for him that will attract him back home.

"He has options with Brighton and Nottingham Forest. I know Bohemians are involved and possibly St Patrick's as well."

Previously QPR have been linked with the Cork-born player, who spent much of the first half of the season on loan with the Seagulls. A return to the Withdean Stadium seems unlikely after a bust-up with chairman Dick Knight.

O'Callaghan himself recently said he was keen to get back into the Town team, something his agent has reiterated.

Plymouth have completed the £200,000 signing of Aberdeen midfielder Chris Clark, prompting concerns amongst Pilgrims fans that either David Norris or Péter Halmosi are set to leave Home Park. Town are the only club who have made a confirmed bid for Norris, while a number of other Championship clubs have been linked.

Reports yesterday said the 26-year-old will meet with Plymouth officials to discuss his future this week. The Pilgrims are yet to offer a new deal, but are expected to tempt the former Bolton and Boston man with improved new terms.

Meanwhile, TWTD understands that defender Chris Casement is a loan target of Stevenage Borough. The Blue Square League side's manager Peter Taylor watched Town's reserves in action against Peterborough last week as he looked for defenders to strengthen his squad.

Academy centre-half Tommy Smith was a player interesting the former England boss, but we now believe that Casement may be the man making his way to Broadhall Way. Smith, Ed Upson and other members of last night's victorious Youth Cup side could also move on loan during the transfer window.

Brentford manager Andy Scott says he is unlikely to re-sign Town midfielder Sammy Moore on a second loan spell. Moore is interesting Dennis Wise at Leeds, someone the Blues youngster knows well from his time as a schoolboy at Chelsea.

Elsewhere, Town owner Marcus Evans is reported to have asked for detailed reports on each area of the club having spoken to various department heads — including manager Jim Magilton and chairman David Sheepshanks — at his London offices last week.
