Chairman David Sheepshanks says a victory over Charlton at Portman Road on Saturday will put the Blues back in the hunt for a play-off place after last night's 4-1 defeat at Barnsley.

Sheepshanks said: "If we win on Saturday we will be back in it. But we need to play better than last night. And I am sure we will. It is not the end for us.

"The manager will have to get together with his players and pull out a big result against Charlton. After this bitter pill we need a win.”

The Town chairman felt the penalty award for an alleged foul by Velice Sumulikoski on Jamal Campbell-Ryce at 2-1 had a big effect on the game: "Their player had lost the ball, and it was harsh. Up until then I was still confident we would hit back at 2-1 down.

"Fans at home will see the score and think the worst. Our fans who saw the game will think differently. We completely dominated the first half but did not take our chances.”

Meanwhile, referee Darren Drysdale will look at a video of an incident in the second half where striker Alan Lee felt Barnsley defender Dennis Souza deliberately elbowed him. If Drysdale feels action is warranted, the matter will be taken up by the FA.

Elsewhere, on-loan winger Jaime Peters was substituted after 22 minutes with an ankle injury as Yeovil lost 1-0 at home to Millwall.

Matt Richards played the full 90 minutes for Brighton as the Seagulls won 2-1 away at Walsall.
