Wednesday, 11th Jun 2008 16:25

Reports in Newcastle have revised Town's apparent bid for Shola Ameobi to an initial fee of £2 million with further top-ups taking the deal to £3.5 million. Yesterday, Ameobi's agent denied reports claiming the Magpies had agreed a previously claimed £4 million fee for the 26-year-old.

According to today's report the Blues will pay £2 million up front plus another £1 million based on appearances with another £500,000 due to the Premier League club if Town join them in the top flight.

Ameobi himself is believed to waiting to see if there is any interest from current Premier League sides before he decides on his future. Norwich City are again claimed to be out of the running now that significant fees for Ameobi are being discussed.

Meanwhile, Town are amongst a host of Championship clubs claimed to be interested in signing Liverpool youngster Paul Anderson on loan.

The 19-year-old, who was on loan with Swansea last season, is strongly tipped to be joining Nottingham Forest, but the Blues, the Swans, Watford, Burnley, Doncaster Rovers and League One Leeds United are all also said to have enquired about the midfielder.

Anderson is reported to be meeting Reds' chief executive Rick Parry on Thursday to discuss his future.

Town are also being linked with another Newcastle striker, youngster Andy Carroll, mentioned in connection with Norwich City early today. The lanky frontman was a loan target of Jim Magilton's a year ago. Derby are also interested.

Elsewhere, former Blue Marcus Bent has returned to Charlton Athletic after Wigan boss Steve Bruce decided not to offer the much-travelled striker a permanent deal after his season-long loan came to an end.
