Town's youngsters provided tremendous entertainment in their last home game of the season, thrashing Birmingham City 7-0 at Playford Road on Saturday morning. Connor Wickham and Ronan Murray each hit a hat-trick against a weakened Birmingham side.

City had lost the home leg of their FA Youth Cup semi-final the previous evening and were forced to play a younger than usual team.

The Town goal rush started after 15 minutes when Jamie Griffiths crossed for Connor Wickham to head home at the far post.

After 21 minutes Wickham became the provider when his pinpoint cross was tapped in by Ronan Murray.

Minutes later it was three when a goalmouth scramble ended with Murray firing home. A miserable half ended for the Midlanders when a low cross was turned into his own net by Hancox.

Town started the second half as they had finished the first and Wickham put Murray clear for the young Irishman to complete his hat-trick.

Murray then returned the favour when his cross was fired home with an unstoppable finish by Wickham.

With Seb Dunbar raiding down the left City were over-run and his through ball set Wickham away for a fine goal and his hat-trick.

In the 90th minute Tom Eastman struck a post with a tremendous effort. A goal would have been a fitting reward for an immaculate display at the back with Jack Ainsley.

Meanwhile, the U16s beat the same opposition 2-1.

U18s: Fuller, Meekings, Dunbar, Hyam, Eastman, Ainsley, Lambe, Cawley, Wickham, Murray, Griffiths. Subs: Watson, Daniels, Duzgun, Clemo.
