Burley on Scowcroft Rumours
Burley on Scowcroft Rumours

Town manager George Burley has acted quickly to confirm that James Scowcroft is very much in his plans for next season. Rumours have been suggesting that Scowcroft may go elsewhere during the summer with Leicester, linked with the striker at the end of last year, rumoured to again be interested.

Burley said: "There are always enquiries at this time of year, that’s part and parcel of the close season, but I can assure you it’s all speculation at the moment. James is an important member of the team. There will be lots of competition for places in the team next season, as we have a good squad, so all the players will have to work for their place."

Scowcroft failed to hold down a regular place last season with Alun Armstrong ahead of him in the pecking order up front and Jermaine Wright ahead of him for the right midfield position.

Richard Naylor has had his goal against Derby taken away from him. The Town's striker's effort has been given to Horacio Carbonari who is probably as displeased to be given the goal as Naylor is to have it taken away.

The injury hit striker now has just one Premiership goal to his credit, against Middlesbrough. He could point out, of course, that he sored that with a broken leg.

Earlier in the season Alun Armstrong had his second goal against Southampton taken away from him and given to Wayne Bridge.

An FA committee studies video evidence in these situations before making their decision.
