Agent Confirms Town Bid for Watford's Priskin
Agent Confirms Town Bid for Watford's Priskin
Tuesday, 4th Aug 2009 08:45

Tamás Priskin’s agent József Vörösbaranyi has confirmed that Town have made an offer for the Watford striker. Vörösbaranyi told a Hungarian newspaper that he expects the clubs to agree a deal which would see the 22-year-old join the Blues.

TWTD first broke the news that Town were chasing Priskin last Thursday with Roy Keane subsequently denying that a bid had been made, prior to being spotted at Vicarage Road watching the Hungarian international in action on Saturday.

Now it appears the Blues have made their move with Vörösbaranyi confirming that an offer has been made: “I cannot reveal the price, but I may confirm that Ipswich have made a very serious offer for Watford’s Tamás Priskin.

“We wait for the club's answer now, but I believe that an agreement will be made between the two clubs.”

The Hungarian press is reporting that a fee of somewhere around the £1 million to £1.2 million mark has been offered by Town.

Vörösbaranyi says that the player is interested in joining the Blues, although he wouldn’t be too disappointed at remaining at Watford as he is happy at the Hertfordshire club.

Priskin was born in Slovakia but has a Hungarian passport and has won 19 caps for his adopted country, scoring seven times.

He played with Slovak youth side FC Komárno before starting his professional career with Hungarian club GyÅ‘ri ETO.

In 2006 he moved to Watford, who were then in the Premier League, for an undisclosed fee, signing a four-year deal. Since then he has scored 16 goals in 58 starts and 24 sub appearances and also scored twice in four starts and one game from the bench during a one-month loan spell at Preston early in 2008.

The 6ft 1in tall striker is contracted to the Hornets until the summer of 2010 and is yet to sign an extension to his initial contract at Vicarage Road.

A fortnight ago, Watford boss Malky Mackay said he was confident Priskin, who scored 14 times in 36 starts and five sub appearances last season, would still be with his club at the start of 2009/10.

Meanwhile, Veliche Shumulikoski is continuing talks regarding personal terms with Preston, the clubs having agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £400,000 last week. The Macedonian international has already undergone a medical at Deepdale and his move looks all but certain to go ahead.

To those that are in any doubt about why we're trying to sign Tamas Priskin...

Any striker that can make Petr Cech look a mug in a one-on-one must have something about him!

To those who says his agent is not Indian, look at the guys name. It was just a play on that, bad joke however lol.
I think he'll be a decent signing and to me it's quite clear that when Keane came here and said that he was impressed with what he'd seen, he wasn't quite telling the truth. Many of these players from Jims days, most of them not up tp promotion challenging standards are on Keanos departure list. I expect our squad to look very much different by the start of next season, even if we don't get promoted, with Roy obviously wanting to asemble his own squad of players

I'd be very happy to see Priskin come our way. I saw him play a few times last year and was very impressive in my opinion . He seems calm and composed infront of goal and scored some impressive goals last season most noticeably against Chelsea and Spurs. Reminds me slightly of Marcus Stewart!

Regarding "The Big Name Signing" I honestly don't know who we were expecting to sign, Luring supposed Big Names to the Championship must be very difficult. I still wouldn't mind seeing David Healy here.

Good news, we need to spend to get quility so i think this would be a good move.

If we do get him then we will have a very tall squad with Stead , Delanly, Balkinstine, McAurly, Wickham, Walters and now Priskin , so this will come in handy at away games to play for set peices.

On Wikipeadia its got at the bottom. ''It has been reported by some sources that a £1 million bid has been made by Roy Keane at Ipswich Town for the striker's services''

Bring on Coventry !!!

Well, Blueboots youtube vid hadn't gone on here at the time I was making my last post. Says it all for me, he's got some quality about him and some pace too. Scores good goals, would like to see him up front in a combination with Stead or Counago, however having said that hasn't Roy said he's looking for two strikers, so that could well mean the ones we've already got, he sees as nothing more than backup strikers.

Looks like a potentially good signing to me. Judging by the video (and I know that won't tell us how many times he missed!), he appears to be a clinical finisher - just what we've needed for the past few seasons. GET IN THERE!!!

SomershamBlue - good point! He looks like a good finisher, but we don't know about his strike-rate or build-up and support play. But then again, Keano WILL know about all those aspects of his game, and if he thinks he is right for us then I guess we should trust his judgement.

KEANO!!

Looks a decent player. Have to trust Keanes judgement that he is a better player than Rhodes and that we will now have more of a goal threat.

'What a waste of money ! IMO he's not even worth half a million.'

Can I remind you we just sold a player with ONE championship goal to his name for 850,000. Priskin is proven at this level and RK has seen something he likes, keep faith.

i agree rory293. I know goals dont tell the whole story but if we sign priskin he will be our top striker in terms of goals last season (14 I think). And he's still developing and only 3 yrs older than rhodes.

Hello from Watford

he's a terrific finisher, but not a big physical presence which can frustrate - you sort of want him to use his body more. Also, one has to wonder whether they play with offside in Hungary as he still doesn't seem to get it. But a splendid footballer, and the best finisher we've had for a long time. Don't want him to go, and wouldn't look on it as a done deal yet - Mackay certainly wants to hang on to him. In a q&a the other week he was cagey about certain otehr assets... "wait and see, currently a watford player, will be happy if he stays" etc, but on Priskin "no, he's definitely staying". So we'll see...

Why do people continue to add stupid posts on this message board? Priskin is not worth this.....should not have sold Rhodes for that. Get real people. Check out the Youtube video on Priskin and you will soon change your mind. He is quality and worth far more to the squad than Lisbie or Rhodes would have ever been.

A mate of mine supports Watford and he is peeved that we are going to sign him; he describes him as a poor mans Berbatov, which is good enough for me in the CCC.

Also, Keane obviously rates Wickam far more than Rhodes. We should be thankful that Roy is going to throw a young 16-17 year old kid into the fray this season. Isn't that what we were all asking for last season?

Well, I still am not sure this is the best way to go - we just lost Lita to Boro and I thought he would be much beeter scorer than Priskin but as I said many times - I believe Keane knows better!

Not really sure about this. Don't think he is our 20 goal a season striker that we crave for.

No way. We need someone who's capable of getting at least 20,000 hits on youtube each season.
