Norris Out for Up to Five Months
Norris Out for Up to Five Months
Tuesday, 11th Aug 2009 08:56

Midfielder David Norris has been ruled out for up to five months with the knee injury he sustained at Coventry on Sunday. The ex-Plymouth man collided with team-mate Jon Stead during the second half of the 2-1 defeat.

Norris underwent a scan on Monday and will see a specialist later this week. It is expected that he’ll require surgery.

Manager Roy Keane says Norris’s absence is a blow: “It will be a big loss. He is a battler and he breaks up the play well and gets things going from there.”

Yesterday, Keane was quoted as saying that he had finished making his transfer window purchases but Norris's injury may persuade him he needs more cover with Dundee United's Morgero Gomis strongly linked with the Blues in the last couple of days.

Absolutely gutted :( Norris never stops running, RK needs to find a new engine in midfield...

Agreeing with comments that he was our battler and a replacement definately needs to come in as we have no one with grit! Gio would be amazing, but he can't fill that position that norris will leave, we just need Keane to get his boots on! Surely it must cross his mind...?! Otherwise Gibson takes my vote on Loan.

A shame but we've got loads of midfielders so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

What I intended to say was..... I think Norris is overrated and payed too much for him however we do need a bit of steel in midfield and there are plenty of physical 100% players around. Maybe we could put Delaney in there to beak a few legs ( on second thoughts maybe not - he dosent run around!)

This is a major setback, but before we go jumping back into the transfer market or loan market, let's give Quinny a go at battling midfield. Ditto Colin Healy. And we've also got that youngster form Sunderland, Colback, to blood (is he a battler ? I dunno). Maybe these 3 are worthy deputies without overloading our squad with bit-part players all over again. Keep the squad a lean, Keane, winning machine.

A bit gutted about this, I was hoping that this was gonna be a big season for Norris. I think he bring some energy and fight to the team that is sometimes missing in the centre of midfield.

I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Terrible, terrible news. Let's hope this isn't a foretaste of how our luck's gonna go this season.

Is this the right time to enquire about the availability of Sholes?? Would love to see that.

Get well soon, Chuck.

Bugger, I believe we have a good squad and support, we should overcome this technical hitch. COYB

Shame. First real test of RK's management. Must bring in a replacement now.

Replace or cover using what we have? It'll be interesting to see how Roy tackles this one.

He'll probably take its head off.

May be a bit controversial but I wouldn't mind seeing Alan Quinn given a run to fill this role. Closing players down is his strong point and he's a real scrapper for the ball. If he's properly fit and motivated I reckon he'd do a sturdy job personally.
