McAuley Set for Exit?
McAuley Set for Exit?

Town will look to sell skipper Gareth McAuley after a bust-up with manager Roy Keane, according to a report in one of this morning’s tabloids. The Northern Irishman will be sold in order to raise funds to strengthen the squad.

McAuley, who was left out of the side which faced West Brom on Saturday, is said to have angered Keane at a midweek meeting where the side’s poor start to the season was discussed.

Ithink the only thing Keano has done wrong is over estimate Ipswich's chances this year. He clearly knows what he wants but I think the task of buying and selling players to create a squad to his liking as well as promotion in 1 year are far to ambitious.

By all means the season isnt over, its onlt just began!!! It will amazing what a win can do to get things back on track.

Well if we do sell McAuley then we need to buy a NEW central defensive pairing - how about Bobo Balde and Danny Shittu - now that would scare a few strike forces !!!

Also - Thomas Gravesen and Ben Watson will be fine in midfield please

Up front - get pablo and wickham working together

Do you think this would give us the steel we need ??

As for the creativity - Garvan, Martin and Walters should provide that !

God we are in a mess !! How did this ever happen ???? Just a thought how can WBA find a gem like that Muwambu in midfield....we need to increase our scout network beyond the emerald isle ?????

Cheers and heres to a busy 7 days !!!

last season , the matches i saw, he played well but this season it has gone a bit wrong for him. he wasnt the best buy by mag, there are better cb for 1.5. these cbs may not be 1.5 but they will buff up the team.

Roger Johnson-Cardiff...Still young at 26 but still a responsible cb

Sean St.Ledger-Preston...Is young aswell but still hasnt reached his potential yet i think he will get to it this season.

i hsve more coming up...

Trickster - Roger Johnson signed for Birmingham for £5m in the summer.

If you do have more suggestions maybe keep them to yourself?!

marhsallmullet - he's only naming some potential good signings, stop crying.

as for this 'selling him to raise funds'. What's happened to this 25m he was supposed to be given at the start of the season? that explains the poor signings. (Delaney, Healy)

All this fussing by you lot seems a little daft. Keane clearly came in, saw we have some decent technical players, but has discovered that this isn't matched by application and desire, a winning mentality, by many of them. It doesn't surprise me that McAuley is one of these, although I do think he performed very well in the second half of last season.
If he is worth £1m (or more?) to us in the transfer market, we have to ask whether it is worth having that cash to spend on other players, or holding on to a player who doesn't see things the manager's way. In other words, does he add £1m to the team? Would it be better putting that towards Ben Watson, who is an excellent player at this level, in my opinion.
This is all natural fall-out, as a new manager looks to chantge a culture - from being a nice team of players, with quality in many positions, but not a winning mentality, into a team capable of competing this season. My instinct is that Keane wants to buiold a team which, by Christmas, is capable of beating any team in the division. if we can then build a promotion challenge in the second half of the season, so be it. If not, as long as we are heading in the right direction, we'll be set up for next season.
Before anyone asks, "But keane has said we are looking to get promoted this season" - well, of course. Ask any sprinter in the World 100m finals if they were looking to win when the gun fired - of course they were. There is no point competing if you are not looking to win.
And, for those who may think this is not the Ipswich way, look back to when Robson took over a good team from Bill McGarry in the late Sixties. he had to kick out the club captain to move on as well. It happens, get over it.

We should be praising McAuley......if we want to get a good price for him!!! Defence looks a shambles, if it wasn't for Wright it could easily have been 6 nil.

I agree with Roo. I will happily take up the position of Oceania/Asia scout for ITFC for free!!!! Absolute melting pot of class ova here that is virutally untapped by championship clubs. Jason Culina, Adrian Leijer, the list goes on. Aswell as the Asians Champions League invloving some of Japan & Chinas biggest clubs the possibilities are endless.

Just give me a call Roy, I'm home all night!! : )

I agree with Suffolk n Good, McAuley isn't captain material he never seems to edge the players on, BRUCE should've been the captain right from the start he has the quality to make a good captain, look how he worked alongside the young lads last week in the cup game they all respect the man. He is the sort of person we need he always puts in 100 per cent. BRUCE TO BE CAPTAIN!

Sign Sol Campbell, Danny Shittu or even the centre half from Shrewsburry before someone else does!

To my mind we haven't looked solid in defence for a good many years now.Even in our more successful recent seasons we have consistently leaked goals at crucial times. When we have been playing well it's as often as not because a creative midfield has been supplying a top class striker (Stewart/Bent) with plenty of ammunition. The chances of landing a Stewart or Bent with the money available in the Premiership and the lack of top class strikers even in that League means that it is vitally important that we nurture Wickham, give Priskin a decent amount of time to bed in and accept that Stead is a notch below top class but is still on his day an excellent striker.
In common with most fans I have always liked Pablo and would love to see him succeed under RK but I have never seen him as a frontline striker - quite simply he doesn't have the pace even for the Championship. But he could be half the solution for a creative midfield - playing the John Wark role from the midfield - I could see him doubling his tally of goals AND providing our strikers with plenty of ammo.
I am more worried about our defence (and have been for at least 5 seasons ).They never consistently look solid.I would love a Shittu type CB - an uncompromising brick wall who opposing forwards do not fancy playing against.
I remember a young Titus Bramble crunching a certain RK in the first 5 minutes of (if my memory serves me) a first home game of the season in the Premiership against Man U - a game we didn't lose. Oh for a Titus now (Wigan's player of the year last year).

so many good comments underlining the fans view that we paid too much for a very ordinary player. One of my main gripes with Jimbo wa sthat he fished in Ireland too often but sadly Keano has the same traits. I'd parcel McAuley Delany Healy and Garvan off to Ireland (buy one and get three free) and get some loanees asap while Keano searches for some better players.

Outs - McAuley ,but how much can we expect to get for him?
Would love to get shot of Delaney & Trotter too.

Ins - Jay DeMerit & Ben Watson.

Greektractor, exactly what I've been saying on here. Evans needs to put some money in if he has aspirations for promotion and it's shows that he is clearly naive about how football works. There is nobody of sufficient quailty at this club to sell in order to buy. Or is this part of a deeper ploy? Please just tell me that Evans is being clever and has realised that by people thinking we had money they just held us to ransom over fees for players so by making it public knowledge that there is no money we an atually get players in without being ripped off!! Just a hopeful little thought came into mind as i'm trying to find some positives somewhere!!!
As for McCauley going, not too bothered, he was good when he got going last year but we can't have a central defender and capatain who takes three months to get going each season.
Michael Ball is still a free agent and would be a good signing, he was linked earlier in the summer and would fill that left back spot that we've struggled to fill over past few years.

Sol Campbell is a free agent and would provide us with much needed experience and leadership at the back. He seems to be in talks with Notts County, so clearly doesn't mind dropping out of the Premier League.

Might sound stupid but Sol Campbell's a free agent.....anyone think he could do a job for us?

I for one would be happy to see McAuley go. But let's not read too much in to a Tabloid report that there was a bust up.

Personally wouldn't be too upset at McAuley leaving. He has his good games but they do seem vastly outnumbered by his bad ones. He looks unconfident at times, often has very poor positioning and awareness and so far this season seems to have been saved by Pim a lot (surely this should be the other way round?). As said above, we need a big rock at the back for Pim to grow with, not necessarily Campbell (just can't see Roy going for him) but somebody of that ilk. He is truly a terrrible captain and I cannot see why Richard Wright was not given the armband at the start of the season.
