Keane: Penalty Miss Crucial
Keane: Penalty Miss Crucial
Wednesday, 26th Aug 2009 00:14

Boss Roy Keane felt Tamas Priskin’s penalty miss was crucial during the Blues’ Carling Cup exit at Peterborough on Tuesday evening. The Town manager was unhappy about the defending which led to the Posh’s second goal.

Keane said: "The penalty miss was a big factor in the game of course, but if you don't take the opportunity you still have to deal with that.

"If we had gone 2-0 up it would have been very difficult for Peterborough to get back in the game.

"We started well and when we got the ball down and passed it we looked a decent team, but the second goal was a major disappointment.

"The first goal was an outstanding strike but the second was very poor defending. I've said it before but you just can't give away goals like that."

Keane says he is still looking to sign players ahead of Tuesday’s transfer window closure but says there’s nothing imminent: "There is no progress on the transfer front and there are no guarantees.

"We will have to see what the next few days bring us. I don't want to talk about any players who may come here as we may have to deal with who is still here."

The Blues boss says he replaced Pablo Couñago as the Spaniard is not yet fully fit: "We didn't want to risk him for too long because it's his first game back but his awareness and hold up play gave us a boost."

Posh manager Darren Ferguson was well aware that there were other bosses watching his players but says it would take large offers for him to consider allowing them to leave: "There are a lot of managers interested in my players, but last season we had 15 or 16 teams watching us some weeks so we are used to it.

"We will not sell any of our players unless it's a ridiculous bid so I am not concerned. I am backed by the chairman here and there is no chance of any of our best players leaving this month.

"We needed to stop the rot but it doesn't mean anything unless we get a win next Monday night against Crystal Palace."

To anyone who constantly moans about losing games and not renewing your seasonticket...perhaps you should support one of the big four instead of writing pathetic comments about how you dont think its worth coming to games, its part of being a real fan of a team that isnt all glory, live with it you whinging kid its football

I can't believe people are having a go at RK already. At last we have a manager who's not afraid to upset and ship out those he thinks are not up to it. Unfortunately there's alot of Town players he's inherited that live up to that billing, so it will obviously take a while to sort it out. At least he's giving every player a fair chance to impress. We are truely lucky to get a man of Keane's stature in the game to come to our club (which, let's be honest, is'nt half as big a club as a few on here believe).
Keep the faith. Keane will get there if given time and is backed by everyone.
There endeth my sermon for today.

dubblue - nail on the head, could not agree more. Never have I and never will I boo at a match, but we've been steadily declining in quality and entertainment for the last four years so I can't pretend I'm thrilled with how it's going. And now RK has pulled up the roots of a team that, whilst by no means automatic promotion standard, finished 9th last year - 9th, not 19th - and is failing to adequately replace them. I wonder at what point the 'true supporters' might acknowledge that RK is making a bit of a strange fist of it - bottom at Christmas? squad of 8 players? a stand torn down because a supporter in it looked at him funny?

TBH i think that for periods of the game we looked like the makings of a good team, especially in the first half! we played a lot better than at WBA. Their first goal was unstoppable so I cant complain but i would blame Delaney's cock up for the second one, as he allowed the ball to be played across! Very poor from Delaney and Healy again but the rest looked like they may come good!

In Keano i trust
