Second Sunderland Midfielder on Way to Town
Second Sunderland Midfielder on Way to Town

Town’s offer to Sunderland is understood to be for both Grant Leadbitter, as emerged earlier this afternoon, and right-sided midfielder or full-back Carlos Edwards. It is understood that the joint bid has been accepted.

Edwards, like Leadbitter a key member of Roy Keane’s Sunderland side, has been linked with the Blues all summer, having reportedly watched by Town in 2004 during his time at Wrexham.

The Trinidad and Tobago international eventually moved on to Luton in 2005 on a free transfer, having joined Wrexham from Defence Force in his home country in 1999.

The 5ft 11in tall right-sided winger, who can also operate at full-back, joined Keane's Sunderland for £1.5 million in January 2007.

Capped 74 times by his country, scoring four goals, Edwards's first season at the Stadium of Light was hampered by a hamstring problem and then a broken leg. Those injuries have limited the 30-year-old's Sunderland appearances to 37 starts and 19 games from the bench, yielding five goals.

Last season, Edwards, who is contracted to the Black Cats until 2010, spent a month on loan at Wolves, making five starts and one sub appearance but failing to score.

The midfielder, who played every minute of Trinidad and Tobago's games at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, including their 2-0 defeat to England, was in the Sunderland side which faced Norwich at Carrow Road on Monday, a match Roy Keane is understood to have watched.

Like Leadbitter, Edwards is now set to hold talks regarding personal terms with the Blues.

Quality players the pair of them..Leadbitter in particular would add some zip and energy to midfield..he and Colback could be a interesting paring in the middle of the park..Let's hope that these deals go through....They may take time to settle, but definitely the type of players we need..

Nice one keano...in you we believe..CMON YOU BLUES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only hope these two agree to drop a division! Because this is the most difficult thing to overcome. Till now we had several bids accepted by the respective clubs but the players rejected us... Just pray to get these two and a striker please!

Gio is in fact playing for Spurs at Doncaster right now.

I like both Edward and Leadbetter; one will add steel, the other will add pace and they both have plenty of skill!!

Keane is working his magic. 3 points on Saturday!

I see Edwards a lot in CONCACAF for T&T against the USA... I like him, he would be a good acquisition.

It would give us all a much needed boost if these two signed. Personnal terms may be a stumbling block though.

No team was ever successful conceding goals. The teams that get promoted do not alwayse score the most goals but they are the teams that concede the least .
We need 2 strong central defenders and a better fullback than Delaney. The best Town teams of the past had this ie Hunter and Beattie, Butcher and Osman.Sort out the defence and the rest will follow

Very good news, but after the blow of thinking the Celtic guy is on his I am not counting my chicken. A striker and centre half need to follow.
