Town Targeting Four Sunderland Players?
Town Targeting Four Sunderland Players?
Wednesday, 26th Aug 2009 23:35

Town have targeted four Sunderland players in a £7 million bid, according to a tabloid report. Daryl Murphy and Nyron Nosworthy are the other players Roy Keane is aiming to land, in addition to Grant Leadbitter and Carlos Edwards.

All four were key players during Keane’s spell at the Stadium of Light and were involved in Monday’s Carling Cup tie at Norwich, which the Blues boss is understood to have attended.

On Monday TWTD reported that Nosworthy, Murphy and Edwards were amongst Keane’s targets, while news of the Blues’ interest in Leadbitter broke this afternoon.

Leadbitter’s PFA representative Matthew Buck has confirmed that a fee for the former England U21 international has been agreed, but as yet there is no clarification on the position regarding the other reported offers.

Nosworthy, who Keane switched from full-back to centre-half, has long been known to be a player the Town manager rates highly, while the Blues and Murphy have been negotiating a move for most of the summer.

Meanwhile, Celtic boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed that his skipper Stephen McManus doesn’t fancy joining Town: "I have no problem with people being interested in our players, but what I would suggest, from my understanding, is Stephen McManus would have no interest in going to Ipswich Town. He is captain of our club and wants to get himself back into our team.”

would not particularly want Murphy here as it seems we would be his second or third choice and we need players who are 100% comitted to ITFC. However if he comes i will give him the benefit of the doubt. I will be very happy if we get the other 3 though, especially Edwards. Lets hope the story is true and Keano can persuade them to join as this could be the boost the team so desperately needs

About strikers, I hear there's a good young player who's already scored half a dozen goals prob only cost a couple of million ... plays for Huddersfield !!

On another note, a lot here say need some players who are average for the Premiership but could help promotion. Surely that's a false economy. You want to find those players on the way up who can develop and be worth more money later. Otherwise IF promotion happens then there'll be the whole rigmarole of finding players good enough to stay in the Premiership etc. He may have been a good player but the more I see the more I doubt Keane's ability to manage people. Different people need treating in different ways and you somehow need to foster the team ethic.

I know it's easy to sit here saying things and the reality of the situation is probably a lot different but you can't stop people having opinions ...

Personally i don't care if they are irish, ex sunderland, ex man u or eve ex Norwich (will maybe not that one!). If they can do a job then great.

Keane knows these players very well and if he can get them then fantastic, much better than signing someone who looks good but ends up having the wrong attitude...

I don't buy the fact we need a 20 goal man either, i think with the right support both Stead and Priskin could do that for us. I do think we are relying to much on Wickham though, it's great to see him being brought through but maybe one more experienced body would mean he's doesn't have such a burden on him...

Yes leadbitter, edwards and nosworthy are good championship players but murphy?? He was shocking against norwich when i saw him, if you cant do anything against them you arnt going to do anything against a championship side. We still need a left back, delaney isnt up to standard, and balkenstein should be dropped hes awful, costs us goals everyweek. Dont sell stead, hes hard working and grafts for everything. We are missing norris desperately but we need to get over that and get 2 centre midfielders. Bruce for captain, the only player that has commitment, he wears his heart of his sleeve, LEGEND

hes shocking, how can you think hes good, what do people see in him? Just costs us goals, he never even played for his old club in holland (and the league over there is awful) so why is everyone raving about him?

Hes young and improving and he is a left back so hes supposidly playing out of position and i think hes doing a good job hes better then all are other defenders

yes hes young but not improving, hes staying in the side when he should be dropped, bruce is easily our best defender, balkenstein was so susspect at left back last year, all he does is lose the ball by tring to smash it to jon walters all the time, no idea at all, its just so predictable,

Dear Roy,
I hope you are well now and fully recovered from that dreadful experience in the North Of England and able to come out to play again very soon. I truly believe that continuing your recuperation in the quiet backwaters of the Orwell will assist no end. To further help you here is a postal order--hope you can find some playthings in one of those big shops you like so much

Dear Uncle Marcus
When I arrived I couldnt believe it, everyone chanting my name, smiles and chants of "Theres Only One Keano"..and off I went with a new spring in my step to that big store, you know Premier Stores, ..and Uncle there were so many wonderful purchases available, but when I approached the assistants they all looked at me as though I was some sort of shoplifter..wasnt my postal order big enough I asked.. we are not sure that our commodities and you are suited..oh please please I begged..but I was ushered out of theses premises..I took refuge in the nearest hostelry and great luck..I could hear the craic in the background ..and sure enough there was Colin and Damien and Shane... you want to come and play with me ..oh yes please they exclaimed..so Uncle I used some of that postal order money and took the boys home. But guess what my new chums in the country laughed and made funny noises when they saw them try to kick and pass my new ball..so Uncle I have had to go back to that horrible place in the North where I once thought my real friends were , you know the ones in black and red shirts, well even though they dont play so much any more for cousin Steve he said he I could have them as he really only needs them when his proper players take a rest...so Uncle I hope this works, they came done here earlier this week and showed Auntie Delia just had good they can be against her bright young team so thats good enough for me.. I am not sure if that postal order will stretch enough to buy all 22 - so I might have to ask you for a top up---..hope you are well, wherever you are

Love Roy

PS Got any razor blades...
