Edwards Bid Not Accepted
Edwards Bid Not Accepted
Thursday, 27th Aug 2009 10:22

Sunderland are yet to accept an offer from Town for Trinidad and Tobago international Carlos Edwards, according to reports on Wearside. The press in the North-East also claim Town are unlikely to be successful with their reported £7 million offer for four players.

While midfielder Grant Leadbitter is due for talks at Portman Road today after the clubs agreed a fee, the Black Cats have not yet accepted Town’s offer for Edwards, according to the latest reports in Sunderland.

It’s also reported that there has been no significant progress regarding Town’s ongoing move for Daryl Murphy, while Nyron Nosworthy is said to be a player that Steve Bruce is unwilling to sell.

after we get leadbitter and hopefully edwards then all we need is a left back and a centre back, KEANO

We should not be selling Garvan to Sheffield if we have no replacement lined up!

Hang on a minute, there is a big difference between "bid NOT accepted" and "bid NOT YET accepted".

How is this a story?

Why does this 'news' come out before there is at least some truth in it?

This is getting beyond a joke. I ain't going to believe any story until I see any "possible" signing in the Britannia Stand holding a Town shirt! My opinion but a bid in for Gio and an experienced defender!

sky sports says this: "10.40 Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has confirmed the club have given midfielders Carlos Edwards and Grant Leadbitter permission to talk to Ipswich."

Good to see we are not panicing. Or buying Sun'lun's rejects.

If there is so much money to spend, why did we have to sell Rhodes? What was that about?

onlybluesandhorses - the way I read it is that 'Ooddersfield's offer for Rhodes was too good to turn down at this stage in his career. Yes he is prolific at L1 or L2 level, but unproven in the Championship (its another argument whether he was given enough chances or not). I guess the next few years will prove whether it was a good move or not - he will either languish at a lower level and never improve, in which case ITFC won the gamble by getting a decent fee for an average player. If, on the other hand, he turns out to move to Real Madrid for £25 million in a year or two, then we will have lost the gamble and let him go too early .... I think it was a business decision - at the moment, if his worth was thought to be no more than half a million quid or so, and if the offer matched that then he was always going to go to cash in on him now, rather than be stuck with a player who might not be worth anything in a couple of years.

Everyone seems to have forgotten the potential influence of Rhodes Snr in the move, so yes it might have been RK that made the final decision on Jnr but i think it was Jim sacking his old man that was the catalyst.
