Keane: Duo Have Hunger and Commitment
Keane: Duo Have Hunger and Commitment
Tuesday, 1st Sep 2009 19:24

Boss Roy Keane says the willingness of Carlos Edwards and Grant Leadbitter to drop down a division shows their hunger for the challenge which awaits them at Portman Road. The duo signed in a joint deal worth almost £4 million earlier this afternoon.

Keane told the club site: "I worked with both players at Sunderland and know what they are all about.

"They have dropped down from the Premier League to join us. That shows a hunger and commitment to play football for Ipswich Town and I'm delighted to have them here.

"They have played in the Championship, know what's needed to get out of this division and they will add qualities that we need at this football club."

well done Keano, have you got a top striker in mind for when the loan window opens or will these two new players have the ability to find Priskin & Co a bit more easily ?

Transfers don't run as smoothly as that nowadays. Too many middle men interfering. Still, all sealed now and both look quality additions. I'm sure RK will have a couple of loan deals on the go. He said he's looking to bring in 4.

Checking the fixture list you could do with me against Boro! Just ask Mogga!!

Anyone else underwhelmed by the reality of just the two signings and no departures?

Greedy agents tryin 2 get a large cut of the transfer would prob be the reason 4 a slow move, Anyway, great couple of signings and I still believe that somethin special is gonna happen on the loan front. Whether that is gio or nt remains to be seen, but ive just got a feeling somethin is great will happen.

Also, on the strikers, Stead has gone nowhere, Priskin has a goal which can only give him confidence, Pablo has impressed since he started playin again, Walters mite have his right wing place taken by Edwards allowing him 2 go upfront and Wickhsam is not the finished artical, tho he will come good! Do we really need another striker?!

Still think that we will probably add another couple of loan signings in a weeks time and maybe 1 or 2 going in the opposite direction.

Good signings - astute piece of business I think. Now. Gio on loan for the season. As I've said since the day he left - he will return...watch this space...

He would be an exciting player but where would we play him? Wide right? Wide Left? thought we had signed Edwards & Martin for those positions?

Perhaps we'll see a Centre Half arrive on-loan in a week or so until January?

Good luck to them both, you've got a couple of good players there who will do very well for you. Good signings and for a good price as well.

I really do think these players will give us the bite in the middle we've been lacking. Ok we've been a bit of a mess defensively, but if the midfield is missing then it's always harder work for the guys at the back. Will be intersting to see how Leadbitter and Norris combine in midfield when he gets over his injury. Think we'll have a good midfield to feed a good attack. Edwards, Colback/Norris (when back from injury) Leadbitter and Martin/Civelli, although as we can't seem to sign decent LB's I'd like to see Civelli tried there when he recovers as it's where he started his career.

a good days work from messers Keane, Clegg and Evans. IMHO they will produce the spark to ignite our season! I wonder if we may get another 1 or 2 on loan before Boro game?

People keep saying that Civelli should be given a go in LB, not that I am saying it shouldn't happen, I would like something like that to happen, it probably won't will it as there is a reason he was moved to LM/LW rather than LB

Great additions, took some time, but will prove to be excellent signings. Thought we were on the verge of signing Wood from Sheff Wed? Anyone know what happened there then? I guess he could still come in on loan, do think we need to add another CB though.
