Clegg: Win Just Around Corner
Clegg: Win Just Around Corner
Wednesday, 7th Oct 2009 10:26

Chief executive Simon Clegg has again backed manager Roy Keane and says Town’s tide is about to turn. Clegg was speaking at last night’s AGM of the West Anglia Branch of the Ipswich Town Supporters Club.

Clegg says gaining that psychologically important first victory of the season is only a matter of time: “We are going to get that first win, it is just around the corner. The tide is about to turn and I'm confident we will be standing here in a few weeks’ time having a very different discussion."

The chief executive admitted that all has not gone to plan, but remains convinced that Roy Keane is the man to lead the Blues: "It's not where we want to be, we all recognise that, we are not trying to shy away from that, but I remain equally confident that Roy will be able to turn things around with the players he has got.

"I don't believe it is a relegation fight at all. Our aspirations are to take this club back into the Premier League at the earliest opportunity.

"Roy is committed to this club, he has a two-year contract. We have got absolute confidence and belief in him that he's the right man to turn this situation around for us."

Meanwhile, former England defender Sol Campbell says he is still officially contracted to Notts County, meaning he could join a Football League club on loan outside the transfer window. Town boss Roy Keane recently said he could be interested in signing the ex-Spurs and Arsenal man.

Campbell left County only weeks into a five-year deal last month, but says that the formalities severing his ties with the League Two side are yet to be completed: "People have to sign papers.”

The 35-year-old is set to train with Arsenal and says he hopes to find a new club and get back playing before the transfer window opens in January: "There are ways of playing before January, I'm not going to elaborate, but there are ways. Not very soon, but there are ways.

"It will be great to train here and get fit. My overall fitness is OK. But something else might happen before then."

Campbell reportedly hopes to receive special dispensation from the authorities to join another club on a permanent basis outside the transfer window, but if this is not forthcoming a loan spell with a Football League side could be a possibility if he continues to remain officially on Notts County's books.

We all support our team.
Just some of us can see the bullshit and cracks.Does not mean I am any less behind the team than you?

Tractorboybig - agree that it looks bad at the moment, but .... still 105 points to play for (yes, yes, I know we won't get ALL of them!), and the table can still completely change. Already, The Great Middlesbrough have hit a sticky patch and got a 5-0 thumping off West Brom, who in turn were beaten by The Mighty Barnsley. It's going to be one of those seasons when everyone beats everyone else, just somebody seems to have forgotten to tell our players! Remember 1992, when Blackburn were miles ahead, we caught them up ("no chance" everybody said), overtook them, went up as champions. Or mid-1990s - Millwall were top at Xmas, ended up relegated. Or a few years back, when a certain Mr Keane took over bottom-placed Sunderland and they went up as champions .... Until the fat lady sings, I refuse to believe that we are going anywhere else but upwards, and trust me, she ain't even got to the theatre yet!!

KEANO!!!

Roytheboy - I've had my moans in the past too, most notably about our esteemed previous manager! But that was after 3 years, and I simply feel that Keano has hardly been given a chance yet. But thank you for your comment - lets hope that the crowd at PR can become a 12th man again - we need it to!

none us us can believe in,any thing else other than promotion. I do note your comments.
However its the way you play and to be frank we are poor. You mention 92, we were playing well from the start of the season and there was a air of confidence.
the problem is at present we don't look like winning and where is the magical wand coming from? Its not as if we have senior players of quality out injuried or suspended, what roy is playing is it and it is not clicking.
Still there are more important things in life?

dobbie73 i agree there seems to be too much of fans on the down at the moment
its still early days things are getting better (newcastle are a differant class and we would never beat them on their day ) he probably has got some players lined up to come here (int duty stopping them probably at the moment)and the only way is up baby

Why woudl I post a positive comment when there is clearly nothing to be positive about? Bottom of the table as tractorboybig said we were outplayed by 4th bottom. I cant see us winning a game with kean in charge - none of the JM players want to play for him! He has ruined our squad, taken us to the bottom of the league and you lot want me to write positive comments!

YOUR COMMENTS ARE NOT POSITIVE THEY ARE UNREALISTIC

All we will continue to do with Keane is lose games and receive endless excuses from him. The sooner we change the more chance we have of ssurvivng this RELEGATION FIGHT!

Someone tells me we aint in arelegation fight? Whats that about? Tell me in that case what we are in a promotion battle????????

I will continue to write comments on here about how i want keane out until he 'wins a FU*K**G game' which BTW I cant see, you lot say we will have two home wins against Swansea and Watford no way will we - wake up and smell the coffe the best we can hope for is one win and a draw HOWEVER i bet we lose one and draw one - no thats not being negative its realistic!

Things can only get better- Keano can do the job. If we win the remaining 4 games in October (all of which we should do- Swansea,Watford,Plymouth,Derby) then we could be sitting in mid-table.
A strong CB and a clinical striker would do the job nicely, especially with Norris and Civelli coming back either side of Christmas.

Sorry, what exactly is a 'toser'? Only joking! I like where you're coming from injuredanimal.

It's interesting that people seem to only refer to either relegation (the doom merchants) or promotion (the wildly optimistic). Given where we are (rather than where we had hoped to be), I'd be happy with a top 10 finish and our form improving towards the end of this season to give us confidence to challenge for promotion next season.

Let us pray....

There is no way you can say we are in a relegation battle, at least not until you have to win every game to stay up.
We have been incredibly unlucky this season in so many ways.
We have let in a load of goals, some people and even our great manager has put this down to poor defending, when clearly it is just bad luck.
We have not scored as many goals as most of the teams we have played against which again is obviously down to bad luck.
Our players often look as if they have never played together, once again really bad luck.
We are not playing very good football---bad luck
We never have a settled team---bad luck
We have a manager that doesn't really know what he is doing----bad luck

To all you TOSER's that seem to think anyone who comes on here and voices an opinion that is different to yours is not a true supporter, please grow up. I have supported the Town since the Robson days and will always continue to do so. I always get behind the team and the manager and have never jeered or booed them at any time. However we all have opinions, I desperately hope Keano can turn things around but just at this moment in time we are bottom of the league which seems to imply some sort of relegation fight, and from what I have seen so far we are there on merit.

I think the problem is not differing opinions, everyone is allowed an opinion.
Its that some people on here are the equivalent of Jehovas Witness',they come unbidden and they feel the need to come on here everyday spouting their views, that are contrary to the majority, and it is always the same old vitriol, and it seems that they never have something new to say,and force the rest of us to read their drivel.

If they want Keane out, good for them, it seems the majority dont. So, the question is,why keep winding up the fans who support Town their way?

As for how long you have supported Town, I cant see the relevance,I also have never booed them,MY POINT EXACTLY,but my opinion is that Town arent doing what we want at the moment, but i will follow them whatever, as i have always done, and take umbridge at anyone who disses the club, manager, team in any way.....THATS MY POINT OF VIEW.

Suffolktractor added 20:07 - Oct 7
Actually we all come on here unbidden, thats what this site is about.
Since when has it been banned to have views that are contrary to the majority? I thought democracy and debating was all about differing views and respecting other peoples opinions.
I'm sure we all want the same thing, however i find the 'keep the faith' mentality rather odd, as if denying we are in trouble will somehow pull us clear of relegation.

AJblue added 20:13 - Oct 7
As i said thats just my point of view!!!

I dont want to ban anyone, all i ask is say something different every now and again.

and, if keep the faith is odd, then i admit it, i am odd!

it has worked for me for nearly 40yrs!

i just think its sad that regardless of how things are going or who is deemed to be the reason, some people cant post without badmouthing others who disagree or the the people being discussed.I am not at all happy with things at present, but dont foul mouth anyone , some who post share my disapointment and views but dont endear themselves by using bad language [albeit disguised by type]and achieve nothing on here but expose themselves as being sad,not very bright individuals,I am and always have been a staunch Town supporter,i honestly think we are at a very low point ,yes S C a win probably is just around the corner, law of averages says it must come, maintaining a run is something else, hopefully it will come, i for one dont see it happening, HOWEVER i dont see need or gain from using bad language at anyone who disagrees .I dont think Roy Keane is the man,but would be pleased if proved wrong. LET THERE BE LIGHT. pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase

KEANO, KEANO, KEANO................!!!!

Bring on the swans and lets repeat the Newcastle atmosphere! Oh, we probably can not as you can take 8000 off that figure for a little old game against Swansea!

Sing your hearts out for the team, we need to push them all the way for a win!!
