Holland: Town Can Still Get Promoted Friday, 16th Oct 2009 13:13
Former Town skipper Matt Holland says the Blues can still get promoted this season, despite failing to win any of their first 11 matches and currently sitting bottom of the Championship. Holland, who is currently without a club after leaving Charlton at the end of last season, was writing in his new blog for the Football League website.
The 35-year-old former Ireland international feels Roy Keane’s side can emulate the Town team from his time at Portman Road: “It's a false position they find themselves in and in a month's time after three home games and one on their travels I expect to see a lot more points on the board.
"Can Ipswich still get promoted? It may sound crazy but I think they can. In my first season at Portman Road we were in the bottom three after 14 matches but then embarked on a spectacular run which saw us lose just one game in the next 22!
“A fifth place play-off finish was ours and I can see that happening for the Blues this season too if they get things sorted.”

I would love to see Holland come back to PR again one day in any capacity We miss his sort at the moment. Those days of Holland, Hreidarsson, Peralta seem very distant right now.

Most overrated player prior to Owen Garven

do you actually know what your on about 'yallop'?
Gary added 13:39 - Oct 16
No he actually started out as a centre half here when Burley signed him before moving into midfield, and played at centre half for a little while under Royle, and was a class apart. Having siad all that my Mum would make a better centre half at present!

i couldnt agreee more Gary. Bring in a decent centre half on loan!

or was Matty one of those who was against Keane in the McCarthy fiacsco???
Gary added 13:47 - Oct 16
Hmm thinking about it she may be a bit slow, poor distribution and not very good in the air, oh hang on, seems a perfect fit!!

Good point Gary he was certainly there. Although thinking about it McCarthay actually is a **** so RK had a point. How was Pablo used as a scapegoat?
Gary added 13:51 - Oct 16
Wasn't it said Pablo kicked Marcus in the head in training in a freak accident which caused his broken jaw??

Yallop - spot on. You have to be brave to criticise Holland. I've always been happy to have a go at 'Windmill Arms'. Crap. As for promotion 'idiot' springs to mind.

Thank you. I'm not by any stretch saying he was terrible but he was never a particually strong in any area that you'd expect of a midfielder; ie passing, tackling or scoring record. I think he was helped by having some very good players around him
Gary added 13:56 - Oct 16
Friskin, you have to look at the bigger picture. OK Matty may not have always have inspired on the pitch, but he always gave 100% and led by example, never hid. He was a fantastic club captain for this club both on and off the field and weighed in with his fair share of goals. Can remember feeling so proud when he scored for Ireland in world cup, a fantastic ambassador for this club.

Probably why I'm saying bring him back as a centre half!!!! just reads the game so well.
Yallop added 13:59 - Oct 16
Gary - all what you said in his favour could also be said about Kuqi
Gary added 14:01 - Oct 16
hmm suppose so, but can't really see Kuqi at centre half, and Kuqi never captained the club and jumped ship as soon as the opp arose. Although having said that if Holland had gone to Villa we would have been £4.5 million better off rather than giving him away for nothing to our feeder club. I guess its all hindsight.

Oh dear..this messageboard seems to have turned into facebook. I wish we had someone with his leadership in our team now...or in the dugout come to that.

Yallop: Kuqi...... are you having a laugh!! ha ha ha!! What a load of crap! Yes he bagged a few goals, alongside Darren Bent remember, and most players can bag alot of goals alongside him! Holland was a god, he literally blead ITFC week in week out!! Gary: I remember feeling a little overwelmed when he scored in the world cup too, amazing to think you could feel like that about a player at your football club, but thats what made him special and a Legend for Ipswich.

Gary, is your mum right or left footed? Can she head a ball? Send answers to Mr Keane ASAP. :-)

Some people who class themselves as Ipswich fans I wonder if they have ever seen them play. How could people put down Matt Holland he was class and gave everything and a very talented player and Ipswich all the way. After ever game he would do a lap and applaud all the fams which to be shows some appreciation of the people that pay your wages and rnspect. A True gent and great player. The goals he scored and stopped !!
