Garvan Happy to Be Back
Garvan Happy to Be Back
Monday, 23rd Nov 2009 19:03

Midfielder Owen Garvan says he is delighted to be back in the first team again having gone three months without playing a senior game. The Irish U21 international skipper played the full 90 minutes against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, having been left out since August.

Garvan told the club site: "I'm obviously glad to be back playing and hopefully I've done enough to stay in the manager's plans for next week.

"It was difficult being out of the squad and watching the lads travel away, but I've kept working hard and all I want to do is help the team and play a part in helping to push the club up the table.

"Like any player I want to be out there on the pitch, playing games and I want to stay in the team.

"My fitness wasn't too bad. I have played in the reserves and for Ireland, but you can't beat playing every week for match sharpness."

Meanwhile, former Blue Darren Currie has joined Dagenham and Redbridge on a two-month loan from Chesterfield.

Elsewhere, ex-Town striker Neil Woods has been named the new manager of Grimsby, having previously been youth coach at Blundell Park.

Every player has strengths and weaknesses. Garvan's strength is his ability to pass the ball to feet and potentially open up a defense which has been missing from our game plan for weeks. Would love to see him and Pablo in the side every week. None of our strikers on Saturday could hold up the ball. Not sure who I'd play with Pablo but certainly not Lee Martin. What were you thinking Mr Keane? Maybe Counago and Walters is worth a try.

Very pleased to see Garvan back in the side. I thought he played well on saturday. Hope he gets a run in the side now as he also has the ability to score good goals. Mind you, any goals would be appreciated.

Good game and about time he put some effort into a game as he was below average prior to being dropped

Garvan played well on Saturday, no doubt about that. BUT consistency has always been the issue with him, so we need to see a string of good performances - not just one or two, followed by a slump back down to mediocrity.

I wish him well, but remain to be convinced.

It amazes me how people change their opinion just because Keane picks him ,last week to a lot of people he was useless and Bedsit you wanted him to go to Southampton with Thatcher !!!
He is a good player with great vision and we kept the ball a lot better on Saturday than recent weeks ,he had a couple of shots and put in some decent crosses if we had anybody in the middle or backing up from the other wing , alot more than Edwards ,Trotter , Quinn or Peters have done in weeks .
And it is a joke to think Keane dropping him has done him good ,the joke has been not playing him for so long when we have created so little and not won .Now get Counago in the team to link and Stead to finish and we might actually create a few chances and maybe even win

Well done OG. He played well and DID TACKLE (Hurrah!!!)

However, he needs to maintain that level of performance if he is really going to make a difference to the side. I'd like to see RK give him a good run in the side now.

And bring back Pablo!

QUOTE: he'll never play at a higher standard than the championship - So tell me (putyabootsonkeano) why has he already been included in Giovanni Trappatoni's Ireland squad & why were West ham & Everton tracking him back in december.
