Keane: We Deserved the Win
Keane: We Deserved the Win
Sunday, 29th Nov 2009 18:50

Boss Roy Keane felt his side deserved the 2-1 victory at Cardiff City. Second half goals from Jon Walters and Jon Stead took the Blues to their second win of the season, Peter Whittingham having put the home side ahead in the first period.

Keane said: "I've had my share of luck here at Cardiff in the past but with the chances we had today I think we deserved to win.

"It was an open game but at half-time I told my players it would be a test of character and they have come through it well.

"The subs played a big part in the victory and, although I have been disappointed with results to date, I have never lost faith in the squad.

"Jon Walters has been a good leader over this difficult period and he scored a superb equaliser, while Jon Stead is starting to make a habit of scoring vital goals for us."

The Blues boss hopes the victory will help his side push on: "Our form has not been too bad but you hope the result can see us kick on now because it's wins we need.

"We had chances before our goal and Jon Walters has scored from the hardest one we had, but what pleased me was that we were creating chances.

"We may have had a bit of luck with the winner but Steady came on and made an impact. Our subs did well for us, Quinner was full of energy and Arran was solid.

"Stern John was a handful for their defence and I was pleased with him. We didn't want to play him for 90 minutes but, with Wrighty going off, we only had two changes we could make. He will be better for the game."

Keane says Wright’s knee injury will be assessed tomorrow: "Wrighty will have a scan on Monday. Obviously it's a blow losing him but we will know more tomorrow.”

The Town boss says Saturday's trip to the Millennium Stadium was intended to get his squad in the right frame of mind for the game: "Players sometimes need a break from the normal routine to relax them. That's why I took them to see Wales play Australia.

"I'm a big rugby fan anyway, so I enjoyed it. But I think the lads enjoyed the spectacle as well.

"They sampled the atmosphere of a 70,000 crowd, had the chance to see the Millennium Stadium.

"I'd like to think that most of them will maybe play before a crowd that size themselves one day."

Dave Jones was unhappy with his team’s second half display: "The players never made the right decisions after the break and it was a game we should never have lost.

"When the crowd went against the players they started to panic and some of them never wanted the ball.

"The midfield and frontline were non-existent and we hardly strung two passes together.

"When you are fighting hard to get something out of a game you have to win the ball in tackles and we didn't even do that.

"I have seen two stoppable goals go in and we need to hold on to the ball more and make the right decisions.

"Players will make mistakes but it is how you respond to them that count and everyone in the dressing room is responsible as that was our worst performance at this ground.

"At the moment we are easy to break down, but we are not a bad team collectively. We have to do better and if the players pull their fingers out we can soon get back on track."

UEFA81,CGS and the other morons....Now what you got to say?! Well done RK and the boys (especially Garvan for the 2 assists), great result. Also thank you Cleggy,Evans and the fans (well most of them!) for keeping the faith. December/January are months now where I see us flying up the table and it would not surprise me if we are in the top 10 at the end of January. Just think about it...not playing fantastic but still unbeaten in last 7 (or is it 8?!) and still have C&C to come back soon...I'm so excited I think I'm gonna wet myself!! Oh and well done Carlisle yesterday LMAO x

Here we go - we win today and the usual, blind 'Keane-tinted spectacles' comments are out in abundance. "Flying up the table", "Pushing for the play-offs", "Top 10 end of January", etc, etc.

Get a grip people. We are still in the drop zone - just 2 wins in 18 games and have an absolute mountain to climb. I said all along we would get the odd win here or there, that's bound to happen. But as for a run of wins that will catapult us up the table me thinks you are in cloud cuckoo land. Don't get me wrong, I would love to believe that and would love even more for it to happen. But, alas, while we still have RK as manager the very best we can ever hope for is the odd win here and there - just like today.

You have no idea how much I would love to be proved wrong. In the meantime I keep a very firm grip of the grim reality of our dire situation.

Honestly didnt see the l in lass, on my boys life. Still very funny tho!

If you read the two posts, you will see I aint bein negative, just saying we need to win in the next couple of games, we are still in the relegation! I then went onto say that with two more quality signings we may well be laughin.

Na my bird is sitting next to me and by how you just reacted, we think it may be that time of the month for you! Calm down. Kiss your ass? You like that?

Hi Injured, you're forgiven, nice to see a pic from Colchester Zoo - Going there soon so will give CGS/UEFA81 a wave in their cages. Who couldn't be in a good mood after that result.....hmmmm?!!! ;o)

You know how it is?
You get 3 points from a game where hardly anyone gave you a hope, including some of your own "supporters".
The mood on this website is upbeat and bouyant (well rare!)
Everyone is in agreement (even CGS!)
Then along comes some wet git, who pisses all over your parade.
Stand up UEFA 81, and take a bow....Whinger of the day!!!!
You say you have no idea how much you would like to be proved wrong, well today you were...and you still cant just shut-up and enjoy it can you?

Uefa, why? Why do you have to be so negative? I bet you are the sort of person who complains on Christmas day when you get a present! Why come on here and complain? Do you actually support Ipswich or are you a canary in disguise!

Well done today town, you are proving yourselves and now push on and get up that table.

WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ive not read all the posts so not sure if this has been mentioned, but it sounds like garvan was instrmental in both goals, and after what was a pretty decent performance in his comeback game vs sheff wed, really is a strange 1 how he was in the cold for so long and then comes straight back in, anyway dont want to be negative after such a great win...well done lads!

this is much more amusing than watching X factor (but Lloyd has to go). My how things have changed in a week on this site..

All i can say is that Keano's press conference after the Irish were knocked out of the world cup was a classic and made me realise why he's right for this club. we've spent too long being the nice 'gentlemans club' which everyone loves to like..

Today was the start of something different and new, we won't beat Bristol next week, but we won't lose but we will be a properly challanging team in the NY and decent cup run, a few games where we upset a few people's expectations the league will do me fine before we lead from the front next season..

Bring on the new era for ITFC..

ITFCson, a bit lazy not to have read all the posts,(wonder if you read this one),but it seems that being left out was just the kick up the pants Garvan needed.
I have said before that I am a fan of his, but just lately, prior to his comeback, he was just going through the motions, and being lazy himself...see the connection? lol!
