Trinidadian International Set for Trial
Trinidadian International Set for Trial
Tuesday, 22nd Dec 2009 09:19

Town have invited Trinidadian midfielder Kerry Baptiste to spend a week on trial at Playford Road. Baptiste currently plays for Joe Public in his home country, the club owned by FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, with whom he has won five domestic titles.

The Blues are reported to be interested in taking the 28-year-old, an international team-mate of Carlos Edwards and Stern John, on loan in January, although a permanent move seems more likely if the former San Juan Jabloteh and North East Stars player impresses during his trial.

Right winger Baptiste, who has won 43 senior caps with Trinidad and Tobago, scoring eight goals, says he is looking forward to his spell with Town: “As a club, Joe Public Football Club has always been committed to getting players exposed to the highest level and uncovering football talent at grass roots level.

“As such, I am really looking forward to this opportunity to further my skills and put my club and country further on the international landscape.”

Joe Public general manager Sam Philip says his club likes to help its players chances to progress their careers: “We’re always looking for possible opportunities for our players, at youth and senior level, as well as to develop and support the great football talent that our club, Joe Public FC, has to offer.”

Club owner Jack Warner added: “I would like to thank my corporate partners for their continued assistance since none of this would have been possible without their assistance to Kerry and the rest of the lads at Joe Public Football Club during the 2009 season.”

Baptiste, who has also operated up front this season, is the all-time top scorer in the TT Pro League, Trinidad and Tobago's top division, having scored 102 goals, 48 of them coming this season.

Well said Arc. That was my first and only thought....

Why do we need a fourth right winger? Jaime Peters just signed a new contract too. He'll spend his whole life in the reserves at this rate. It's the position least requiring someone to come in.

It's only been a few days since Keane said the squad is too big. Every minute should be spent seeking a striker and left back.

Maybe Keane is a marijuana addict?

46 goals!? the standard doesnt look up to much looking at the clips and Trinidad are hardly world beaters. Joe Public FC great name for a team but sounds like a 5 a side team!

I doubt there is much in this. While 46 goals in a season sounds impressive, the standard of the Trinidadian league is probably not going to be all that great so we can't put too much faith in that. Probably a bit too old to make the step up, especially from a totally different country and culture. Would love this guy to be a hidden gem that could score 20+ goals a season and cost next to nothing, but far more likely to be a George O'Callahan than a Kevin Doyle...

while it'll be fun being the Tractor Boyz, he'll have be something special for Keano to be interested. i guess he'll be passing through.

Talking of funny names I remember reading that in the French Cup a couple of seasons ago there was a Nice - Brest tie drawn.

Jim Magilton got a reputation of getting too many Irish men in....... at this rate Keane will get a reputation of just getting poeple in from Trindad!
