Stead Red Card Upheld and Ban Increased
Stead Red Card Upheld and Ban Increased
Wednesday, 30th Dec 2009 14:51

Town striker Jon Stead has been handed a four-game ban after his appeal against his red card at Crystal Palace was not only dismissed by the FA’s Independent Regulatory Commission but viewed to have had “no prospect of success”, adding an extra match to his three-match suspension.

Stead, who was sent off for a tackle on Freddie Sears, will now miss Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Blackpool, if it goes ahead, the away game at Leicester the following Sunday, the Coventry home match and probably the previously postponed Scunthorpe away game, which is likely to played during that period, or alternatively a fourth round FA Cup tie or the home game with West Brom.

I've also complained to both, here's my email to the FA

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to express my outrage at the decsion, not only to uphold the 3 game ban given to John Stead on 26th December, but to increase it to a 4 game ban.
The tackle was 1 footed and not in any way dangerous or malicious. Even the opposition manager stated publically that it should only have been a yellow card.
I understand the FA's need to support referees, however this was an awful decision.
With regards to inceasing the ban, I believe the club had every right to appeal this terrible piece of refereeing and to add another match ban is beyond contempt.
I look forward to hearing how this decision is in any way justified

Yours faithfully

i feel very angry about this. it makes a mockery of football and makes me think that teams will not dare to contest very dodgy refs decisions for fear of getting a futher ban added. Fully agree if we were a top club like Man U etc this may have been a differant matter, a disgrace.......

Everyone is right. This decision was totally ridiculous. What worries me, is that there appears to be no appeal mechanism. Is it the same people who make these ridiculous decisions as it is who are against the introduction of video technology? Other sports have done it. What makes the FA think that they are unique? I have just been watching the England v South Africa cricket and they have a system of so many appeals per innings. I think this enhances the game; not detracts from it. I know that the argument against cites expense as the issue, but this is stupid argument. Especially when you think that most mobile phones come with a camera nowadays!!

It seems my post on here was deleted and i have no idea why. No point getting bent out of shape over the F.A 's decision, nothing will change it. In situations of injustice such as this all you can do is work even harder to overcome the negative effects of their punitive action and really stick two fingers up at them
