Boothroyd Confirms Lisbie Staying With Colchester
Boothroyd Confirms Lisbie Staying With Colchester
Tuesday, 5th Jan 2010 11:23

Colchester United boss Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed that Kevin Lisbie will be staying on loan with his club until the end of the season, unless the Blues find a buyer for the 31-year-old. Town boss Roy Keane had previously indicated that he would be recalling Lisbie once the transfer window opened.

Boothroyd said: “I was delighted to get the call from Ipswich to say that Kevin could continue with us.

“The situation is ongoing but he is with us now until the end of the season unless Ipswich tell us otherwise. That's the matter closed as far as I am concerned, until it is open again!”

Town have a 24-hour recall on Lisbie, which is likely to be activated if another club firms up their interest in the former Charlton man. Town boss Keane said recently that a number of other sides had been in contact with him regarding Lisbie’s availability.

Lisbie himself has made it clear that he wants to remain with the U’s, who have admitted that they would struggle to pay the fee to make their leading scorer a permanent addition to their ranks.

Ahh - it would have made my day to see Lisbie having to run out on to the pitch as an Ipswich player again. The reception would have been amazing.

think we should have called colchester's bluff and squeezed a fee out for him , colchester seem to have won this one , got their man without paying a fee and we are probably subsidising his wages .

don't want him here with his attitude

If he is not proud to wear the shirt then he should be sold ASAP

Dreblue - that's what I was thinking! Stern John is short-term cover for Stead's ban period, so I reckon someone new is on their way. Rumour mill starts here .... WHO COULD IT BE?

Kevin Philips? James Beattie? Rob Hulse?

I hope we are getting some sort of additional loan fee out of Col U for him!

Beckford? 2-3 mil? worth a gamble surely!

I'd like to see Phillips come on loan, not Hulse and i don't think we'll go for Beckford - sounds as though M'boro have the lead there.

After all that he has said Lisbie couldn't really come back to PR. I guess that the club hope that he scores a few more at Colchester and someone makes a bigger bid for him. Presumably nobody has made an offer worth considering so far.

He'll be shipped out on loan every season (or rot in reserves) til his contract is up. As I can't see too many clubs being interseted in him. Having said that if Colchester can offer us any money, even if it's only a quid let him go. Can't see him ever playing a game for us again and wouldn't want him to.

I think we tried to squeeze Colchester but if they have no money they have no money and Lisbie will never play for us again so may aswell b there

I'm dissapointed Keane has backed off. I would have liked to have seen Lisbie sitting on his arse and not playing after his attitude.
colchester must be laughing up their sleeves ....lets hope we get some quality in now ... coyb...

A truely terribleplayer - with an abysmal attitude. What was Jim thinking!!

If noone firms upon an interest for this waste of space, far better to for him to stay at Colchester - at least we won't be paying allof his wages!

I doubt Roy has backed off on this - I suspect Keane was playing a game with Lisbie - insisting he comes back after all that nonescence of 'I never want to play for Ipswich again'. Made him sweat for a coupleof months and will have hopefully taught him a lesson!

Jim was thinking about the 17 goals he scored for a relegated side! Anyway he has found his league.. he should stay there, he never cared about Ipswich and Beckford wont leave Leeds. I am going to finish with some jibberish... Come on Gio!

This is a good bit of business by the club, Lisbie doesn't want to play for us, so we loan him out, saving at least part of his wage. Keane doesn't want him back, but at the same time Lisbie would lose value if not playing, at least by playing for Col Utd, he's in the shop window for others to see, therefore keeping his limited value up. If Col Utd get promotion they would be in a position to afford him & Town re-coup some of the transfer fee paid out.

He is surplus to requirements, but we do need to sell players to bring guys in. By all means, allow him to play at Colchester, but if they don't come up with an acceptable offer and others do, then we sell to the highest bidder. Given that Colchester stung us for £750k... They have already made enough out of us as it is. I realise that the world of football finance has changed in the last 12 months, but what is a decent fee for him - maybe £500-600k?

I agree Suffolk n Good. We could do with only 2 new signings i think. A striker and Centre back. Those who think we are going to sign Beckford or Beattie are deluded!

Goodbye Lisbie. Poor man's Stern John and that is saying something. RK should persevere with Tamas Priskin. He is not an established Hungary international for nothing. Handled the right way and given a confidence boost he will come good and prove to be our missing link. RK has shown he can get the best out of indviduals such as Gareth Mac and Owen G and I am sure he will do so again with Priskin. He is a class act. Needs an arm around the shoulder rather than a cold one from the boss. By the way on a general note : Living in Wiltshire I don't gett to see the Blues much, but went to Ashton Gate before Christmas. I just wanted to pay tribute to the supporters. Amazing and it made me and my son who for some reason like me loves Ipswich with a passion, so proud to be associated with such a marvellous club.
