Town to Opt Against Stern Stay
Town to Opt Against Stern Stay
Thursday, 28th Jan 2010 17:21

Town have opted against extending Crystal Palace striker Stern John’s stay at Portman Road, according to reports in south London. The 33-year-old's loan spell ends after Saturday’s game at Preston.

The Trinidad and Tobago international is in his second month with the Blues and has scored once in seven starts and one sub appearance.

Last week, boss Roy Keane said he would look at resolving John's future early this week: “We want to be fair to Palace and to Stern so won't let it go to the very last day of January.

"With Stern’s situation, because we had him [for a month] previously, if we’re going to take him it would have to be for the rest of the season.”

John has said he would like to remain with the Blues on a number of occasions since joining the club in late November.

Meanwhile, former loanee Moritz Volz is reported to be training with QPR, having been unsuccessful in trials with Schalke 04 and Hertha Berlin back in his native Germany.

Another ex-Town loanee, Portsmouth keeper Asmir Begovic, is reportedly the subject of an approach from Tottenham Hotspur.

darren ambrose - hes been as prolific as any striker in this league and we all know what he can do and as palace gone into admin today would be on the cheap...

striker wise i wouldnt mind either of kevin phillips, scott sinclair, federico mecheda, ben sahar, carlos vela on loan from the prem or could try david healy on a permanent basis

There's a young lad banging in the goals for Huddersfield that might be worth a punt.
Alternatively Alan Lee, Shefki Kuqi or Nicky Forster - all proven goalscorers still doing the business.

Have to say i'm surprised as Keane has been raving about the things Stern has bought to the club. I do agree thought that its the correct decision. Also believe this may mean he has a replacement lined up, either that or he thinks Stead, Pablo and Priskin can do the business?

Sorry but he won't be missed or remembered.

Keep looking Roy.

Bedsit - just what I was going to say! This constant harping about Rhodes is getting boring and childish - HE HAS GONE!!!!!!!!!! Christ, I'm still upset about Muhren going to Man Utd in 1984 (or whenever), but you know ... !??! Just get over it, please. We don't know the full background to why he went, but he has gone, move on.

My personal view is that there is at least one striker on his way in. I suspect Pabs will be gone (terrace favourite but one too many lazy/indifferent games maybe), Priskin will stay (I thought he was OK when he came on against WBA, just not on for long enough), Stead is perfectly OK, and Wickham is coming along nicely. As to who the new guy(s) may be .... I really have no idea.

So yes, thanks for your efforts Stern, and good luck wherever you end up.

Great news......Stern John is a poor striker, holding others back.

....I like Priskin, Stead is playing ok and Wickham. Pabs i would think would be the one to move if any...

If we are bringing someone in, i agree Chorpa would be a good shout. Cardiff's money problems, plus Keane signed him for Sunderland. I think he is a dangerous striker who has excellent movement.

Fingers crossed...
