Healy: Keane Was Key to Move
Healy: Keane Was Key to Move
Tuesday, 2nd Feb 2010 10:23

New Town loan signing David Healy says a reunion with manager Roy Keane was central to his decision to join the Blues. Premier League Portsmouth and a number of other Championship sides are also reported to have been chasing the Northern Ireland international.

Healy said: "I talked to Roy Keane and he made it clear that he wanted me at Ipswich which was nice to hear.

"I know Roy from when I was at Manchester United and he signed me for Sunderland, so to move for me again shows he rates me as a player and as a person.

"I'm relishing playing for Roy again. It is a massive challenge for me and my aim is to help Ipswich pick up as many points as possible between now and the end of the season."

The striker says he has not been enjoying life at Sunderland: “It has been the most frustrating season that I can remember in my career but hopefully with this move to Ipswich Town I will start to feel like a footballer again.

“I haven’t been enjoying sitting on the bench every Saturday and not playing. It has been really tough to take and has got me down on occasions. That’s why I am so delighted to be given this opportunity and I intend to take it.

“I want to get back to playing on a regular basis and I want to start scoring goals again as well as enjoy my football.

“This is a new challenge for me, playing for a club and fans with great respect throughout Britain, and I’m looking forward to it.”

Healy, who will be with the Blues for the rest of the season, is contracted to Sunderland until 2011, having joined the Black Cats from Fulham for £1.2 million in the summer of 2008.

Great line to win over the fans who doubt.

These are positive comments from Healy and I look forward to seeing both him and Murphy in a Town shirt. Negativity and writing off players before we've even seen them kick a ball for us will do no good at all. In the relegation battle we're in support for both these new signings and any other player who pulls on a town shirt is what is needed.

Well said Hermann.

I get the feeling that both players will be up for the challenge. Best of luck to both of them. Lets raise the roof saturday and make some noise for the new tractor boys.

he's certainly saying the right things just hope he can deliver. Maybe playing at this level will enable him to get him back to his best so fingers crossed. As for Murphy i cant help thinking that because he's been such a reluctant mover to lower level that he may not work out. If his heading is better than Stead that will be a plus and Walters can play at his best position out on the right.
We still need a proper left back though.

"a club and fans with great respect throughout Britain":- the usual new signing cliche, or a thinly vieled dig at Sunderland?

Absolutely thrilled with the double signing of Healy and Murphy (didn't Keano do well to keep this one under wraps this time, avoiding other clubs poaching our deals).

Healy's a great goalscorer and Murphy will provide a familiar partnership up front, hopefully they are what we need to start turning some of these draws into wins.

Welcome to the club!!

So, Keane is an obusive thug who is widely disliked by everyone who has ever met him.....well according to some feebs on here anyway.

Well if thats the case, whay Healy says above is obviously a lie, or, could it be that the posters of these false comments are just talking out of their a*ses?

Love "This is a new challenge for me, playing for a club and fans with great respect throughout Britain, and I'm looking forward to it.”
Hope i come to love watching him banging in goals left right and centre too!
Welcome aboard David and welcome too Daryl.
As an Ipswich fan i truly hope that it works out well for you.

As a Sunderland fan, I am not going into the in's and out's of Murphy and Healy. You cannot judge players until you seem them yourself. They have chosen to come to Ipswich and that should say everything for now. I would have thought that anyone pulling on the Ipswich shirt needs to be supported so get behind them and your team and be that 12th player on the pitch and hopefully you will ease into a mid table position very soon. Good luck.

Makem, thanks we probably will make up our own minds.

We have pre-judged them to some extent though.

They obviously wanted to go to a club who could offer them regular football, rather than in most cases nowadays, sitting on the bench and collecting their wages.

To me that makes them both as close to be admired as you can get!

Whilst im not shouting from the rooftops about these 2 signings, I think they are both OK under our circumstances (of being a less than average Championship team). Hopefully Healy can be that poacher we've been crying out for the last couple of years, and hopefully Murphy will give balance on the left. The potential is there.

However, will the right honourable Royston Keane get it right with regards to formations, cut down on the squad rotations, play players in their BEST positions etc. This is the area or more concern for me, not the choice of playing staff.

Whenever any player leaves or a new one arrives, there is always a mass wave of pessimism - David Healy and Daryl Murphy are both very good players, better than Priskin, better than Pablo (the fact there is such mixed opinion on him means he can't be THAT good) and when joined up with Stead, coupled with decent service from Leadbitter, Walters and Edwards in midfield, there are positive signs on the horizon.

So that's another one who likes to play for Keano.

brittaniaman added 13:07 - Feb 2
Believe me Keano has certainly mellowed down since he has been here, his press conferances are light hearted and jokey, and you never see him murder any of his players on the pitch, like Magilton did.So these players do want to play for Roy.

It doesnt matter if you are a play off optimist,a relegation pessimist ,a Keane outer or a get Jim back fan.......the die is now cast ,all it leaves now is for us to get behind the team and NOT get onto players backs. We can have an inquest at the end of the season. For my part i dont care about nationality or what team they come from, when they put on Suffolk blue they get my total support.Lets make PR hell for visitors.
