Keane Delighted With Signing of Strike Duo
Keane Delighted With Signing of Strike Duo
Tuesday, 2nd Feb 2010 17:28

Boss Roy Keane says he is delighted to have signed strike pair Daryl Murphy and David Healy. The duo joined on loan for the rest of the season from Sunderland yesterday.

Keane told the club site: "Up front is an area of the park that I certainly feel we need to improve. I have made many enquiries for players over the past month or two and spoke to managers and I was pleased to get over the finishing line with Sunderland yesterday.

"It was a bit of a rush, like it often is with the deadline, but we got there with 15 minutes to spare, so not too bad.

"I have worked with both David and Daryl before and I'm delighted to have them at the club. Both lads were keen to come, which was obviously a big factor.

"Murph gives us options. He can play on the left but I think we will get the best out of him up front.

"David has a fantastic goals record at international level. It didn't happen at Sunderland for him but that's football and he didn't get a run of games up there, with the competition for places they have.

"We will gauge their fitness with Saturday in mind but they are both keen to be involved and know the demands I will put on them."

NITFC in fairness we would have said exactly the same about Lisbie, but colchester love him and he is (or at least was!) banging them in for them! How the Sunderland supporters can really judge two players that have not played in the first team recently remains to be seen. fingers crossed we prove them very very wrong!

NITFC...
One other thing, but isnt it the done thing to rubbish a player who leaves for another team?
As in a certain Manyoo fan was heard to say "That Ronaldo, yeah, never did rate him anyway"
Lets face it its bo**ox, but it has happened since man first started kicking a pig bladder around.

ps. the done thing except for ITFC fans, who just wont shut up about Rhodes!!!!

We have got to be positive with these signings at this stage of our league campaign.....Stern John did not cut the mustard and Tamas Priskin .....Well what can i say maybe the change of club will help him start finding his shooting boots again. I will be glad when Richard Wright is back in goal for us too.

spot on Retro Blue .

Welcome to the new boys , it's a good opportunity for them to get their careers going again , but I share your thoughts on Priskin , I really hope he comes back to show the boo boys they were wrong . Still say he's a better prospect than Pablo or Stead.

some cutting comments made, [not all without some justification] but now we really are on a wing and a prayer ,so despite what some say or think about the two signings, they are who we have got now ,it has to work I fear the worst to be honest but live in hope that we survive.

Healy is a striker who is proven at this level, and we need a striker like him up front to bang in the goals if twe are going to get out of the predicament that we find ourselves in. With the support up front from Stead, the ammunition coming from Leadbitter,Colbeck and Civelli once he gets we should be able to get ourselves out of this mess. Plus we Healy really does impress there may be a chance to sign him permamently as it is unlikely that he is going to feature regularly up at Sunderland under Steve Bruce.

IRLangmaid25 - I am afraid that you have seen the last of Civelli. I can't see him puting a Town shirt on again.

A crying shame as the boy showed such promise, but it was an horriifc injury and it doesn't seem that he has the ability, either physical or mental to get over it.

Still I have been wrong before, so here's hoping.

Just finished watching the Palace v Wolves cup replay - if someone hadn't fallen out with Alan Lee and given Ambrose a chance when he came back on loan we wouldn't have got into this position having to take someone elses cast offs. Come to think of it why didn't we get Warnock in as manager he's great entertainment and pretty good at the job. Hope our lot were watching the game cause that's the way to play to get out of the 2nd division

I will study these remarks today at the end of the season. It will be interestingto see which ones will be proved right, as I have no idea at the moment. Can't wait to see them on saturday.

I don't think anyone can say that Priskin didn't get a chance, the number of times I've seen him go through on goal and not deliver anything. I think a loan is great for him to build up some confidence and I hope he can find some kind of form.

As for Healy and Murphy, I'm thrilled and can't wait for Millboro at the weekend

Some people's comments on this website make me embarrassed to be a Town Fan!!

Whilst I am keen to give these guys a chance I think we have to be a little bit cautious with our optimism. Both players are not match fit and have not been able to force their way into a struggling Sunderland side. In addition Keano's transfer dealings have been a bit sketchy to say the least!!
Did anyone see how the mighty Preston got on last night???
Even if we survive relegation we all have to admit that this season has been a total disaster, especially when you look at what other clubs have done with much smaller resources (Blackpool, Palace, Barnsley, Scunthorpe etc)
Fingers crossed for a win for Sunderland reserves against Celtic reserves on Saturday!

It seems whenever anyone posts a realistic comment on here they get abused for being negative.
So far this season the cautious comments have been the most accurate every time.
Keane's selections & market dealings have been appalling hence our lowly position in a league in which we were told its easy to finish half-way.
We all wish he will somehow improve but the mistakes have been so numerous there is every chance he wont

These_arent_the_days - And people who have shown a positive attitude to the slightest bit of hope have been abused in equal measure. And anyway, are you telling me Leadbitter, Colback and Rosenior have been appalling selections? Have you been to a game this season? Or are you like the other boo-boys on here and just moaning because we lost to PNE, but were on the bandwagon when we didn't lose a league game for a month before that or when we were on that unbeaten streak between the Barnsley and Palace games?

Over the past couple of months we've seen are defense & midfield settle into a pattern that does make us hard to beat, especially at home. We have all been banging on about the fact that if only we had not squandered all those goal scoring opportunities we would be up near the play off's. We now have two new strikers and lets face it they are about as good as we can get at Championship level. I've got a good feeling about these two, they both have something to prove and dropping down a division may be just what the need to do it. Starting this Saturday against Middlesborough, COYB.
